Carl Landry: The former New Orleans power forward will be another pricey option. He earned $8.5 million last season. Said Bartelstein: “We’ve talked about Carl, and we talked about him last year, too. We’ll see. A lot of teams are calling.”

I doubt we can afford him, but does he bring much more than Bass would?

He's not the jump shooter Bass is but he's a much better low post scorer, which would be nice.

I'd rather play Sullinger for that role though and sign a Center like Camby.

Yes, without a question, he's much better than Bass. I doubt we can afford him, though. He's different - he has a very good mid-range jumpshot, but he excels in the post. He's one of the best paint players in the NBA, and the numbers back it up. He posted up 203 times last season, according to Synergy, so the sample size is large, and ended up 7th in points per play. That's really, really, really good, and is something that Bass struggles with. You can't put a guy like Battier on Landry and expect him to hold his own in the post, like you can against Bass. Defensively, he's come a long way and I think he's underrated there too.

He's a lousy rebounder, but so is Bass. Bass is probably a little better than Landry.

I just don't know if he's in our price range, coming off ~$9 million contracts.

With Garnett aging, Sullinger being a question mark, and without being able to rely on Fab Melo there's no chance we can risk it by paying Carl Landry.

Terrific player, and would be an ideal candidate if it wasn't for health concerns. Just way too big of a risk for us to take at this point.

Got to remember the $8.5 mil was a one year deal, so it was inflated to compensate for injury/off-year risk (similar to Jeff Green's one year deal, and the deals for Kris Humphries and Kwame Brown).

If NO wants hometown kid Bass, I think a sign and trade for Landry in the $6-$7 mil per range would be possible.

I'd be very keen on adding Landry - he'd be the first guy since Powe to be a non-KG go-to guy in the paint.

A nice 1/2 punch with Sullinger too.  Landry quicker and more explosive, Sullinger bigger and longer.  Both very aggressive in the paint and skilled enough to do damage outside it.

What are the health concerns? I wasn't aware of anything significant.

Nothing significant, but he's had some trouble staying on the court throughout the years.

Only last year.  Before that 76, 80 and 69 games.
