Guys please stop with the stupid unrealistic crap. First of all bradley is going no where nor should he. Secondly, we aren't getting josh smith. Not this year anyways. Id love to have JET and Ray coming off the bench tho along with jeff green and MP? That's a championship bench. Our main problem last year is our bench couldn't score! Bass is probably gone if they get JET and Ray tho....

Not if they get Terry with the MLE.

- I doubt that Terry is anything but the #1 option to Ray though in DA's eyes and he goes to one of the runner ups in the RA sweeps.  Not sure why anyone thinks Terry's a better option than Ray. Pretty clear that Ray's the first choice of a large number of contenders.
-There's no way to bring Smith here with the deals mentioned. The salaries don't match under the cap unless you're overpaying Bass in a S+T. ATL is looking to shed bad contracts, not take another one on.

This definitely means Bradley is gone, why would they need both allen and terry with the full MLE ?

Bradley isn't gonna play bakup PG on this team ! And Terry and Allen aren't SF's or PG's.

They are going with a Bass-Bradley and other pieces to get Smith and match salaries somehow.

Bass 7 Million sign and trade, Bradley 1.6 M, + sign and trade Pavlovic 2.7M (1 year deal) makes it work plus a 2nd rounder.

We have this roster

Rondo/Moore
Terry/Allen
Pierce/Green/Joseph
Smith/Sully/JJJ
KG/Melo/Stiemsma

At this point terry is a more useful all-round player than Ray is coming off the bench. Can handle the ball, run the break and score in a number of different ways.

The Smith situation is a realistic possibility. Ferry is trying to acquire pieces and create cap flexibility as his first order of business. He must know that the likelihood of Smith re-signing is nil.

Quote
Before Ferry was hired, Smith told the Hawks he wants to be traded to a franchise he considers to be more committed to winning a championship. There’s been no indication that Smith has changed his mind after Ferry’s hire, which does nothing to placate Smith’s desire to also play in what he believes to be a better sports market. Smith’s contract expires after next season.

Ferry said he plans to meet with Smith soon.

“I have talked to Josh, and we agreed to get together,” he said. “It was a positive conversation.”

As for the C's, it's becoming apparent that it's going to be much easier to replace Bradley via free agency (Terry, Mayo, Young, etc.) than it is to find a high level 4 or 5 to play alongside KG. The plan all along was for Bass to replace Baby and add offensive punch off the bench, not to be a starter. I think that mindset is probably still in place. Bass may be be a good player, but he's not really a starter on a title contending team.

I think a Bass, Bradley, and Johnson for Smith trade would be dependent on our ability to re-sign Allen, and add one of the many scorers/shooters we have reportedly have interest in. If we can't do both then the Smith acquisition becomes much less likely.

Judging by the proposed trade below, it looks as though the Bass, Bradley, Johnson package will be something that Ferry would agree to. Atlanta would be able to add 3 roster spots, 2 still under rookie contracts, for less than Smith would command as a FA next summer.

Quote
ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reports that a discussed proposal would have the Nets sending Atlanta Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams. According to Stein, the Hawks are insisting that former Tucker High star MarShon Brooks be included in the deal while Brooklyn would rather Atlanta take on one of its free agents in a sign-and-trade.

It would hurt to lose Bradley, but I do feel that Rondo could make Smith look as good as Nash made Amare look in Phoenix.

I really think Ray is gone, and both sides know it.  The C's are trying to save face with the fans by making it look like they are giving Ray a good offer.  But the trust is broken, and I don't think there is anyways he comes back without a no-trade clause that  I don't see Danny giving.  I think both sides realize it is time to move on, and Danny is working on helping Ray to his new team by setting a higher baseline for his price, and then by helping to sign and trade him (and in the process hopefully fill a hole on the C's).

I agree with this.
And as more time passes, I think I'm okay with it. I love Ray Allen as a player, and he seems like he's an even better guy...but something needs to change on this team other than adding a couple rookies with unknown contribution. It's been said before, but, this offense gets crippled at times while waiting for Ray to run through 2 or 3 screens. We need a guy to come off the bench and energize the 2nd unit, someone who can run with Rondo, and someone who can create his own shot. I love this team for sentimental reasons, but if they're going to improve they need to move on.

Maybe.

I think its more likely the C's are trying to make the case that Allen should come back, and if he doesn't that they did everything they could.

I don't know if this was posted earlier in the thread, but Jason Terry doesn't look likely:

Jason Terry has held firm to his word that he prefers to play for the Dallas Mavericks next season, and he made that even more clear as sources tell The Dallas Morning News that he will allow his old team to match any offer he receives.

He was very upset with the team for letting Chandler go and not extending him. Still I'm not surprised by this, I'd be shocked if the Mavs don't match an MLE offer that isn't 3 or 4 years.

He was intriguing but kind of glad if this is the case.  Prefer the Rondo, Avery, Ray rotation at guard.

Spend the rest of the money available on Green and someone like Camby and I'd be happier.

Makes sense.  Can't say we didn't try but I think we all know that our team is better with AB getting 30+ minutes at the 2 versus the 15 he will get if Ray is back.

It is going to be hard for Ray to turn down the same # of years and more money with us to go to Memphis or Miami.  Unless another team matches us.

They should only bring back Ray if he is willing to head up the second unit.  If he wants to start they should move on.  Bradley fits in perfect with Rondo/Pierce/KG as he doesn't need the ball to be effective.

If Ray/Sullinger/Pietrus are the core of the second unit, they might actually be able to score instead of going on 5 minute droughts every time KG leaves the floor.

If Ray isn't open to this I would love a guy like Terry to take that spot.
