This obviously isn't an original thought that we should get Kaman, but I don't think some people understand how much he could help us.
We need a center and the only centers in our price range with the MLE would be Kaman and Camby . I wouldn't mind camby , but he is really old and injury prone . Kaman while injury prone himself is only 30 years old and is a legit 7 ft with beef.
He has a great low post game and can get you a basket by just throwing him the ball down low(he is like a 7 ft version of Sullinger). Last year from Feb 22-March 22 in a 15 game span Kaman had 9 double double's a lot of them being of the 20/10, 17/10 variety . In the other games he didn't get a double/double he was putting up lots of 20 pt and high teen games with 7 or 8 rebs.
He has pretty good hands and is huge. Can you imagine the looks he would get with rondo just driving the lane and dropping it down to kaman? or the interior passing of KG and PP getting him easy looks?
He would also move KG back to PF giving us greater depth and height to throw at the Heat(something they greatly lack). I just don't see Camby as a starter at this point in his career.
I would be willing to offer him 3 years 15 mil
PG: Rondo / Bradley / Dooling
SG: Bradley / Ray / Moore
SF: PP / Green / Pietrus vet min
PF: KG / Sullinger / JJJ
C: Kaman / Steamer / Melo
I'm not sure but I believe we could still sign and trade Bass for another piece or just let him walk.
We aren't going to have cap room for the next 2 years anyways so Kaman's contract wouldn't eat into cap space for our long term plans.
