Jeff Green, along with Avery Bradley, Rajon Rondo, and Jared Sullinger, is a HUGE part of the Celtics' future, post big-3 era. If we focus too much on Ray and Jeff slips through our fingers, we're in for a rough few years after Ray, Paul, and KG call it a career.

How likely is he to return? When will we know?

Discuss :)

I agree. I see a lot of people lukewarm on the idea of keeping Green, and on our young guys in general. But if someone had told us 2 years ago that we would have The big three plus

Rondo
Bradley
Green
Sullinger
Melo
JJJ
Moore

I would have been ecstatic. We should be very happy with this group of young guys with the vets around to teach them.

Agreed Green is key.

But loosing Ray's timely 3's could be costly. Dooling and Pietrus may not be the answer and Mayo is even more inconsistent that both of them.

I totally agree with this but I believe that Danny's playing it like Ray is priority #1 to ensure he's more likely to resign here.

It seems that Jeff already knows he's wanted here and doesn't need the public coddling of being referred to as "priority #1". In reality, I think Jeff is a much higher priority (if it's a given he's legit healthy again).

Coddle Ray a bit, get him signed, then move in on Jeff who may be a little more happy go lucky about everything.

Ray was and still is the better player.

He is the one teams are actually chasing.

He can stretch the floor (something the Celtics still need)

He is the one that has hit the big shot.

Jeff Green has showed nothing in the time he has played for Boston.  He looks like he is lost or asleep on the floor sometimes.

I think the Celtics could find 5 to 6 players in FA who are better fits than Green.

I would rather have OJ Mayo.

Jeff Green was thrown into the team in a playoff run late in the season with no training camp and not much practice. In OKC he showed a whole lot more than Mayo has in Memphis. Not even close imo. Green is a keeper, Mayo will be overpayed  by someone this summer.

I wouldn't spend a lot on either of those players.

Gerald Wallace is reportedly signing a 4 year, $40 million dollar contract with the Nets.

While I feel it's overpaying, I'm sure Jeff's agent can point to that contract as a ball-park figure/precedent for his client.

Who said anything about spending a lot on JG? I would not be surprised if Green returned for a 1yr5mil deal to reprove himself before negotiating a bigger contract.

Look the kid is athletic, plays with a ton of energy, and can make shots. I'm scared to let him go.

Gerald Wallace is going to make about as much as KG and Rondo, and the GMs were saying they are losing money during the lockout? Go figure.

Eh, I don't think he can. Wallace has done it for so many years, so consistently. He just gives you so much more than Green does on both ends. Defensively, there's just no comparison - Crash is one of the best there is at three different positions. Offensively, he can space the floor and is one of the better guys at attacking the basket. Like I said, he's been way more consistent. And, most importantly, he didn't just have heart surgery.

I like Green but I view that signing as a positive for the Celtics. The Batum one, on the other hand, would be a different story.

I just do not understand why people continue to make it an either/or issue.  We have Bird-Rights on both players, so there really is nothing stopping us from bringing both of them back.  Siging one in no way preludes us from signing the other.

They are equal priorities.  I find it hard to believe Danny is not capable of negotiating with both players at the same time.

Ray seems to need all this very public ego stroking--I don't get the idea Jeff does.

He hits 3's better... That's about it. That's what he brings to the table.
