So wasn't Greg Oden

But Oden was already showing signs of being "injury prone" while in college.  Sullinger has been one of the top College Basketball Players the past 2 seasons.

Really?!?

......"already showing signs of being "injury prone"?

What do you call an unathletic, overweight player who, according to Danny, "MAY NEED SURGERY", before he even takes a picture wearing Celtic green?

You don't call that "injury prone"?

No.  You get injured once doesn't mean you are.

Lots of angry people. I'm going to reserve judgement on Sullinger until he either does something or does nothing in the league. I hated Rondo immediately after the draft, but warmed to him after his first preseason and we all know where he's at now.

Think back to Odens year in college.  All the potential in the world, but he couldn't stay on the court.  Now look at the last 2 seasons for Sullinger.  Over 30mpg, over 17ppg, over 9 rpg.  The kid played and played very well.  So, no, an injury doesn't make someone injury prone.  Consistently getting injured does.

People around here don't want to hear that...they just want to hear about how we passed on a player with knee problems and how dumb Ainge was not to grab Perry Jones III.

you got to understand it was not just the celts org that were "dumb" as you say. It was the 20 teams before and a good 4 teams after also that had red flags about his condition.

You draft damaged goods, you waste a pick, even though its in the 20's. Celts couldn't afford to waste the pick

I was in your position last night, but the more i think about it, the more Melo makes sense. I mean outside of melo and injured pj3, who else would of the celts drafted at 22?

He averaged 17/9 you can't argue with his production..proly the most polished post game in the draft.

I remember when everyone called bradley a bust

bulging disc are common injuries that are basically a crapshoot. you might have multiple bulging discs but they are minor problems that never really affect you even if they look bad on an MRI. they can also cause various levels of debilitation and require surgery.

when the Pats drafted Gronk I freaked out bc he missed a season bc of back surgery. how did THAT turn out?

this kid hasn't even had surgery, and might not have to get it. for all we know, he may be fine with a little rehab and maybe a cortisone shot. let's see how this plays out. Hopefully is GRONK 2.0 for the Celts.

I have a feeling people are blowing the bulging di cks thing out of proportion. Celtics doctors are the best in the NBA and I trust they know what they are getting there. It depends on the back injury, I have a slipped disc in my back and it actually feels better the more I move around, it's just afterwards when it becomes a problem.

There's no denying that Sully had a great college career, but I have a lot of doubts about how well his game is going to translate to the NBA. NBA guys are stronger and more athletic than the guys Sully went up against at OSU, I think he's going to struggle quite a bit with getting his shot blocked. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the lift and athleticism to deal with that.

By the way, I watched Sully play last year when I went to a home Northwestern game. After the game I told my friends I felt "respectful hate" for Sullinger. Usually a very good sign.

The thing people don't give him credit for is his jumper.  You will see more of it in the pros, especially with us.  He will get those Bass shots and then when he drives like Bass he will have actual post moves vs Bass' 3-4 pump fakes hoping someone bites and no moves at all.

He was very close to a 50/40/80 guy. Over 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and shot like 76% FTs... He can shoot and is very polished. I wonder if he can't be a bit of a Karl Malone type as well... Karl couldn't jump at all and don't think Sullinger will ever be that strong, but can see him being very tough to handle catching the ball at about  15-18ft and either hitting the jumper or getting a step on his guy and getting to the line. Believe he was the #1 guy in the draft at getting to the line and is a documented very good shooter. Not explosive first step, but knows how to use his body and create space or get contact. Think he will have that in his game. Big Baby had that to some degree as well, but Sullinger is far more polished offensively and longer and better explosion, though that's not saying much.
