Not sure if there is a vet center who would be cost effective. If KG is back we won't have a ton of money available. Kaman will cost too much. That's why I think as strange as it sounds Ainge may target size in the draft and hope Doc will play the newbie(s).

I think Camby could be had for 3-5 mil, can't hurt that he grew up in ct and went to school at umass ?
Always liked Camby. As long as he can still rebound and defend the paint, he's the guy for the job. Anybody seriously think KG will be pleased with a rookie starting center?
so replace Bass' contract with Camby on a 1 or 2 yr deal

then trade both picks to move up for sullinger

PG: Rondo          / vet min
SG: Bradley        / Ray (3 mil)
SF: PP             / Green(7 mil)
PF: KG   (8 mil)   / Sullinger
 C: Camby(5 mil)  / Steamer

not bad at all,as long as camby can hold up.....

so you can compete for a title for a year or 2 and get all the young guys big game experience and then moving forward you could possibly have a young core of Rondo,Bradley,Green and Sullinger to either try to trade for a superstar or to sign one to join that pretty solid young core.

Just as a side note, I feel that people are totally overrating what Jeff Green will get in terms of contract, and totally underestimating what KG and Ray will get.

Jeff Green: ceiling is MLE money
Ray Allen: floor is MLE money
KG: floor is $8M; I'd be shocked if he isn't getting at least $10M from some team next year (preferably the Cs).

so then 5 mil for green, 9 mil for KG and 4 mil for Ray still allows us to add a 5 mil center

looks pretty fair to me

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
The possibility of Sullinger coming to Boston is becoming real-er day after day.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Sully here, but I've become near obsessed with Andrew Nicholson, and, barring a draft-day trade to move up, selecting both of them at #21 and #22 would be redundant.  Add in the fact that we have 3J, and it makes the Celtics look bad.

Overall, if I had to choose between Sullinger and Nicholson, I'd go with Sully, just because you can't pass on a guy projected to be a top-3 pick a year ago.

Ok... We are not going after sullinger, now we know for sure. Danny can't be so stupid... He knows sullinger will not reach #21...

Why am i sure the is plan is take Austin?

yep..I kinda got the same feeling..I would not put it past DA to take him , IF DA moves up a few picks and Austin FALLs a few spots ....it might be close ...I'd say there is a 50% chance he'd pick him , depending on WHO ELSE they are looking at and if they are still around.

I took from his comments to mean we may trade up about 5 spots, which might be enough to land Sullinger, but probably not high enough to draft Rivers.

I believe his moving up 5 comments were in direct response to whether he could or would trade his two firsts to move up, in response to which he said they'd only get him maybe up to 15, 16 or 17.  He said he was listening to all offers on the picks.

However, given that Wyc sounds so committed to Pierce retiring as a Celtic, I don't think Danny has the assets to really get up higher than that.

Rajon Rondo   - E'twaun Moore  - Draft pick
Avery Bradley - Ray Allen      - Mikael Pietrus
Paul Pierce   - Jeff Green     - JaJuan Johnson
Brandon Bass  - Chris Wilcox   - Sean Williams
Kevin Garnett - Greg Stiemsma  - Draft pick

Danny might be thinking... This team would be around the same payroll as last year.  Last year we were the 3rd best team in the league.  This team would be deeper.  More talented. Have more chemistry.  More continuity.  Training camp.  Practices.  Why not 18?
I think it'll look closer to this:
Rondo - Moore - FA
Bradley - Pietrus -
PP - Green
KG - Wilcox - JJJ
Camby/Krstic  - Steimsma
and 3 rookies that I don't think will see the floor at all.
I think Ray and Bass get better contracts elsewhere.  Key to that bench is that Moore, Pietrus, Green and Wilcox can each play 2 positions.  I think Danny looks to get another vet PG (could be Dooling again).

I think that's pretty darned likely--except I don't expect Doc to allow Danny to bring more than two rookies through the door.  So probably one rookie big (and a rookie wing) and another FA big.

1 million, give or take a couple hundred. Pocket change.

around 1.4 mil I think, so we would have 23.6 mil in cap space to resign KG,Green,Ray and a center

There's no way we're going into the season with Moore as the primary backup at PG.

There's no way that JaJuan Johnson is playing SF in any form or shape.

There's no way that no-one will make Jeff Green a MLE offer.

Really? Given his heart condition, I suspect teams will be pretty wary of signing him.

ya, plus I think Green really likes the C's and if we still have his bird rights can offer him a nice 1year deal to come and prove himself.

looks like in the latest mock draft has Sullinger falling all the way to #19...

He has JJJ as a PF not SF.  Moore is OK as backup PG if you have Dooling and Bradley as well.  Green is more likely to stay in Boston than go elsewhere since we know him better including his medical condition.  Overall, I think that roster is pretty realistic.  Ray is not Ikely to return.  It gives us a bigger front line too, though I would take Sean Williams over Kristic.
