I don't see what's wrong with swapping 21 or 22 for 33 and 34. A couple of things have to be true for it to be a good idea:

1. We get our guy at 21/22 and believe that the next guy we'd get is not much better than the 33/34 picks;
2. At least one of the picks is a Euro who won't come over for a few years.

For example, suppose we get a rotation-ready guy at 21 (Nicholson?). Then, with 33 and 34 we get Fournier and Lamb/Wroten/Jenkins, instead of someone like Melo at 22.

Why not?

Trade 21 and 22 to Cleveland for their 24, 33, and 34

I am not sure Boston does that deal, though I would rather get the 24, 33, and a future first.

I don't think Danny is going to want to have 3 second round picks. My guess is that the Cs move up a bit from 21 and end up with 1 first 2 seconds.

I could possibly understand a 22 for 24 and 33 deal where Danny uses 21, 24 and 33 combined to really spring up the draft -- #10 or better.  Perhaps NO looking to stockpile young players that would make their roster.

If Danny's not moving up, I could see a deal where he might do 22/51 for 24/33 to get a much better player in the second round.

I don't think Danny dares bring three rookies home to Doc in any circumstance.  I think he ends up with one #15 or higher--and another one somewhere in the draft.

I just thought of a new trade scenario with Cleveland.

Danny trades picks 21 and 22 to some lottery team and gets his stud big man.

Danny trades 2013 first rounder to Cleveland for pick 33 or 34, if somebody like Barton, Crowder, Ezeli, Lamb, DGreen, or somebody cool like that.

Cleveland might do it because they don't need 4 rookies this year, and they could convince themselves that the Celtics 2013 pick will be top 20-25, because Ray will be gone and KG and Paul will be older.

Remember that the Celtics have the Nets second rounder next year, which should be a borderline first rounder.

If a prospect is sitting at 33 or 34 that could really fill a role this year, instead of chasing free agents, the Celtics will be in better position in 2013 free agent bonanza.

And if the Celtics rookies are able to step up in their second seasons, Danny could use all his cap space on a top star, while having a deep and talented roster at least 1-8.
