1) Why would we trade pierce. 2) Why would we trade Pierce for unestablished rookies in a weak draft that Doc wont play 3) Why would we trade Pierce for a contract worse then the one he has?

1)  It's better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late.  This is business...not personal.  Plus we'r getting valuable assets back who are young and have potential.  The Big 3 was a 3 year plan that gave us 5 good years.  It's time to move on people!

2)  A starting 5 of Rondo, Bradley, Green, Okafor and KG allows Doc to bring the rookies along slowly while being able to learn from vets like KG, Okafur and Rondo.  Plus, that's a pretty good starting 5 especially in the East.

3)  We take on Okafor's contract because it gets us pick #10 and our center of the future in Leonard.  Additonally, we have Okafor, who while being overpaid is still a solid PF/C.

people lets be real here. If ray AND double p are gone after this year, there is no way KG is coming back to boston. most likely retires. with that said i still think if we make minor moves to get young impact players to reload we can make another run at this. look at what we did with a depleted roster this year

I'm going to repeat it in every "trade Pierce" thread.

According to Broussard, we already traded Pierce to Brooklyn at the deadline for the top 3 protected pick (ended up #6) and an expiring contract... but Pierce supposedly killed the deal from happening.

Interpret that however you want... but it seems to me that Pierce has no interest in starting over elsewhere and would rather just retire.

I understand your point.  That's why I don't believe trading him to team like the Nets or Sacramento would work.  However, I do believe that Pierce would be open to going back home and playing for the Lakers to finish out his career.  The Lakers are by no means a project as are the Nets or the Kings.  Pierce would be on a contending team.  Also, as much as Pierce might protest initially, I doubt he's going to give up $33 million over the next two seasons. You don't leave that kind of money on the table.  You just don't...and Pierce won't either.

The lakers have nothing of value to offer. Plus they're the lakers. We can't help out a bitter rival.

So we believe Broussard on this one but not Rondo for Gasol?

Got it.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Yea, Broussard is full of it. I'd rather believe Tanguay's gut than him at this point.

What did Broussard say about Rondo for Gasol?  I know Broussard at some point said that the Celtics tried to trade Rondo for Westbrook last year (which I believe) and said the Celtics tried to trade Rondo for Chris Paul (which I also obviously believe).  And I do believe that the Celtics and Lakers discussed Rondo for Gasol.  Supposedly the Lakers turned us down... I believe that as well.  Rondo doesn't have the same value around the league as the he does in Boston.  Maybe that will change after his huge playoff performance.  I think the main reason the Lakers considered trading Rondo for Gasol was because they planned on trading Bynum for Dwight and needed another selling point (young 26 year old pass-first point guard) to convince Dwight to sign long-term... but once it appeared Dwight was no longer on the open market, the Lakers no longer seemed interested in moving Pau.  That's my my take on it.

If I were to trade Paul Pierce (which I don't like to) I would try this:

Celtics receive: Tyreke Evans, John Salmons and 1# pick
Kings receive:Paul Pierce, JaJuan Johnson and 1# pick
(might have to swap J. Johnson with Avery Bradley or add E'twaun Moore)

Why Celtics would do this
: Tyreke Evans is a young scorer, Rajon Rondo would become the leader of the team. Kings have the 5th pick in the draft, which means Celtics could land Andre Drummond who would run perfectly with Rondo. a quick rebuild (Tear of the bandaid technique)

Why Kings would do this: they get rid off John Salmons bad Contract. They get a great leader and help on their SF position, and a proven winner. They get to stay in the draft, Johnson(and E'Moore) or Bradley. Sweeten the deal and it makes up for the prospect lost in Tyreke Evans.

what do you guys think?

I think you have better spelling and grammar than 90% of people who natively speak English.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
How many of these threads do we need?

It's more likely that the Celtics franchise will be moved to Lewiston, Maine than it is that they'll trade Paul Pierce.

That is 100% incorrect. This is exactly the kind of scenario that Danny would go for, and the reasons that the OP has stated are exactly why.
Get Pierce off the books with more picks- more chance to package them for a higher pick or develop a possible All Star into Pierce's place.

You're kidding yourself if you think Danny Ainge won't trade Paul Pierce. This is a business. Pierce openly talks about how he was considering asking for a trade if the Celtics didn't make big moves in the summer of 2007.

Nice post by OP. I'm 100% in agreement with you. Love Pierce, would love to get something for him to help us rebuild.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

If KG retires and ray signs elsewhere than Paul being traded would probably be Danny's #1 priority.  I'd hope it would be with Paul's ok and he'd go to a team with a chance (San Antonio,Indy, Clippers) wherever.  PP has given too much to the team to be dumped for the best offer.  BUT if KG and Ray are gone then Paul would be paid a lot of money to be a mentor to some young guys when we'd immediately be in a youth movement.
