I think Pierce would rather retire than play for a losing team, and I don't think any losing team is going to trade a top 10 pick for Pierce without assurances that he's not going to retire.

Breaking news.  Celtics are also reportedly "extremely interested" in Anthony Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Dwight Howard.  Can I get paid now?

Someone deserves a raise.  :) Stating the obvious is breaking news nowadays. Bob Ryan hasn't paid attention to this franchise since Bird years.

I don't like Harrison Barnes at all. He's going to end up on the side of a milk carton soon.

I think Bob Ryan is plugged in and the Celtics are very interested. However, I don't see them as having the fire power to move up and get him without giving up Pierce, AB or Rondo. Maybe they are working on a package that moves our two firsts plus a future first, but anything more than that I don't see happening.

Here's a scenario, Barnes lasts until 7 but Golden State decides that he is very similar to Klay Thompson and look to trade the pick. We then offer them our two firsts and a future first to grab Barnes.

They'd be crazy to give up Rondo or Bradley for Barnes--and I don't think they're crazy.  (Or that they'd give three firsts up for him.

I think Barnes could be the best player from this draft.

Me too. He's got NBA superstar written all over him. Perfect size and athletic ability.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

My guess is that they are interested in making a move if Harrison Barnes starts to slide towards the 11th or 12th pick of the draft. In this scenario, I could see the Celtics being much more likely to move up, although I don't know what it would take to get there.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I would love to get Barnes.  I think he is the second best prospect in the draft overall.  He is a long way from meeting his (enormous) potential, but he has very little bust potential.  There are a few guys in the draft that have a decent chance to be better than him.  But other than Davis, no one who has the combination of being a lock for a quality starter, with the potential to be a superstar like Barnes does.

Unfortunately, I think it is unlikely Danny will be able to get him, unless he really blows things up.

Agreed on Barnes.

I keep seeing people trying to put a cap on his potential when he still just 20. I think he will be at the very least as good as Danny Granger. However, I highly doubt we'll be able to move up that far.

I don't think he's big enough to make it as a small forward in the NBA.I think he'll be a two guard when all is said and done.

8 foot 5 inch standing reach is too small. He is going to have an extremely difficult time creating shot attempts for himself as a SF in the NBA.

I haven't seen enough of him to get a grasp on how he'll do at SG. If he has the explosive quickness or the ball-handling ability required to be a prime time scorer there or not. Barnes is a major question mark in my eyes.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Davis is the only one worthy of giving up two mid draft picks especially in this draft.  Danny would be foolish to do otherwise.  Pierce, moore, jjj, and a second rounder?  sure
Crazy talk. Those two mid rounds picks aren't worth nearly as much as I think you think they are.  We'd be lucky to up to #14 with those two picks, nevermind getting to #1 to grab a franchise altering player.

Not that I would do it, but anything earlier #14 would be a good deal for two mid round picks in terms of value.

Incidentally, Barnes would not be the first UNC grad to be a better pro than college player.  In fact, some have stated that his game is more suited for the NBA than college.

Get real Davis a Center only has 9' and he is taller.   I think it's an ok standing reach when you take into account that 40 inch vertical Barnes possesses.   I am not crazy about Barnes but long arms are not the end all not like he has short arms.  His wingspan is almost 7 foot.  So his arms are longer than his body.

I think it's a massive red flag

What's interesting is Barnes agreed to workout for the C's.  Typically a guy slated to go much higher (or even a little higher) than a team's pick will decline the invite.

Now the fact that he worked out for the C's is only half the story.  Did the C's like what they saw and decide yeah we're going to go all out to try and land him?  Or did they decide we don't like him enough to try and take a gamble?
