Would I like Paul Pierce to retire as a Celtic?? Yes. But if they can better this team by trading PP, then Im all for it. Like I alway say, its a business. Jordan didnt retire a Bull, Wilkens didnt retire a Hawk, and even Robert Parish didnt retire a Celtic. Saw earlier someone suggest PP to Kings for Evans and #5 pick. If Celtics would turn that down, they're idiots.I know Kings wouldnt do that but u get my point.
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark

I'm in favor of the team running back for this upcoming season, but if KG retires I think the C's would to take a serious look at trading Pierce.

Danny would not turn that trade down.

But no one is trading that high of a pick for Pierce.  The only person stupid enough to do that was Billy King, as Portland found out with the Gerald Wallace trade.

If you can get the #5 pick for Pierce, you have to do it. I dont think the high lottery teams want a 2 year rental of Pierce though, so this is probably a moot point.

True, it's all about 18...But if you can't get a top 8 lottery pick than I question why we'd trade up.

KG holds ALL the cards...if he doesn't come back or retires...I expect them to trade PP loose.

Ray Allen WILL NOT be back. He wasn't happy about being benched and DOES NOT like Rondo

Of Jordan, Wilkens, and Parish, which (if any of them) were traded, and which (if any) left as free agents?

There's a huge distinction between the two.

I know Wilkens was traded.  For Danny Manning.

I think in reality it's going to go the other way around.  We could trade Pierce before free agency even begins.  I know Ainge was looking to trade Pierce for expiring contracts and lotto picks at the deadline... I imagine he'll be looking at the same kind of deals on draft day.  If Pierce is already gone come the start of free agency... will KG and Ray opt to sign elsewhere?

That said... according to Broussard we actually were trading Pierce to New Jersey for cap space and the top 3 protected pick, but Pierce blocked the deal from happening.  If Pierce has some kind of veto power (which might be as simple as saying he'll retire if not playing in boston), then I doubt we'll see him going anywhere.

I believe Pierce was already offered for the Nets lottery pick and another player or two.  OP - you make it sound like we can get anything we want for Pierce.  It works both ways; we need to get equal or better return to move him.  Pierce isn't going to be traded just for the sake of trading him.

There's a huge distinction between the two.
Parish left as a free agent in 1994 when Boston essentially decided to move on.

Jordan retired and then came back when he was running the Wizards.

Wilkins and a 1st were traded for Danny Manning

Oscar Robertson was traded from the Royals to Bucks for Flynn Robinson and Charlie Paulk

Pippen was traded to the Rockets for Roy Rogers and 2nd Round pick

Plenty of other stars were traded whether it is Dennis Rodman, Ray Allen, Shaquille O'neal, Charles Barkley, Kevin Garnett, etc.  Basketball is a business, period.

That said, I don't think you move Pierce unless you get something of value back (i.e. don't make it a Pippen esque trade).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'm tired of people who start threads with such an aggressive tone: "Don't you dare challenge me."

I want Paul Pierce to retire a Celtic.  If you would rather trade him for assets, you are entitled to your opinion.

Yeah no reason to move Pierce unless he asks to go or you're getting something truly valuable. (NJ's only top 3 protected pick for example)

I'd think the C's would be more likely to keep Pierce if KG retires.  I think Doc and Danny would like some good veteran presence for the young 'uns, and they'll be less pressed on salary if they don't have KG to pay.
