Quote from: ESPN Rumors
Alex Kennedy tweeted Friday: "76ers may amnesty Elton Brand this summer, according to sources. I heard that from several people at the NBA Draft Combine."

ESPN.com has also spoken to personnel around the league who believe Brand is a prime candidate to be amnestied in July.

----

Elton Brand can exercise the early termination option in his contract and become a free agent, but that's not going to happen as he's scheduled to make $18.16 million next season.

Brand will remain under contract, however that does not mean he will play for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012-13. His large expiring contract could be used in a trade and he may also be released under the amnesty provision.

The 76ers can have a good amount of cap room in the offseason, however that only happens if Brand is amnestied and his contract comes off the salary cap.

I'd do cartwheels if we could pickup Brand on a 1 or 2 year contract, even if they breakup the big 3. Absolute cartwheels.

They'd be down to about $40 million in salary commitments. Good enough flexibility to add some major pieces.

Not sure the talent is there in free agency for them though. They need a shooter/scorer on the wing and/or a starting PF. Is there enough talent at those positions for it to be worthwhile to dump Brand?

Update: Looking at the FA list, I don't see anything for them. MLE talent. It would need to be a trade. Oh wait, maybe Eric Gordon.

Why in the world would we want brand? Another player well past his prime? This team needs to get YOUNGER

Not if they're gonna stay older with KG, Ray, and Rondo.

We're not gonna find a better PF/C on the free agent market at anywhere near the rate Brand will command (likely the MLE).

With cap space we could just put a bid in at say 2 million.

The 76ers have decided to use the amnesty clause on Elton Brand and the $18M left on final year of his deal, league sources tell Y! Sports.

I'd like him but with us signing Bass it kind of makes it redundant

so how are we in terms of getting him.  He could help our rebounding needs and low post scoring.

Brand will help somebody quite a bit.

What teams have cap space?  I can't imagine a player of his quality clearing amnesty waivers, which is just as well; the last thing we need is him signing with the Heat.

Not going to happen. That's pretty much all you need to know.

He'll probably get bid on, but he'd be a nice option for a more reliable C option.

So it's happening. There is not a guy discussed going to the C's I'd rather have...not Jason Terry, not Ray Allen. Elton Brand would be the ideal pairing next to KG.
