Trying not to count our chickens before they hatch, what do you think will happen to the Heat's roster/coaching situation IF they should come up short in their quest for a championship this year?  Will their trio be broken up?  What about the fate of their head coach?  Will Pat Riley come back?  If not him, who will replace Spoelestra, if he is indeed fired?

Just got me thinking because Stephen A. Smith was ranting on and on about if the Heat fall short, changes will be made...so it go me thinking a little bit.

Well they have a couple of excuses this year: the shortened/condensed season, and Bosh getting hurt in the playoffs, so I would think they'd give at least one more roll of the dice with their Big 3 core.

But Spoelstra will be gone no doubt.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I think they'll give another coach a shot with their trio before breaking them up.

I don't think Pat Riley wants to coach again so I would be shocked if he returned. I expect him to hire somebody. Not a Phil Jackson type; too much ego for that. Someone he feels more comfortable with. A younger head coach. Someone who shares his defensive philosophies. Maybe Nate McMillan. Or, possibly even bringing back SVG if those bridges aren't burnt too badly.

They will not go quietly, so this is not a question I've thought a lot about.

But I agree above: Coach Psychobabble is history. A more veteran hand will replace him.

I wouldn't rule out moving Bosh, either.

Yeah they'll definitely make a coaching change.

I think Jeff Van Gundy would also be a great choice, I doubt either one of them would come back to work for Rilley.

It's crazy because they went to the Finals last year, and (at least) to the ECF this year... it's not like they've been a total bust.

So yes, they will certainly stay together another year, probably with a new coach if they lose one of the next two games.

But if they make changes I would take the more radical step of trading Wade or James before Bosh. Wade and James duplicate rather than compliment each other.

Wade for Chris Paul would be perfect for them, in my opinion.

IF we manage to knock them out (I'm still insanely nervous)....

The absolutely blow-up situation?

Wade for Dwight Howard (signed to an extension).

Phil Jackson as coach.  While it's hard to see how his ego would allow him to coach for Pat Riley, in some ways that's almost the same as LeBron and Wade deciding to play together.  Oh, and they'd pay him out the wazoo - whatever Doc Rivers makes, doubled.

HIGHLY doubt either actually happens, but just wait for the chatter to begin...

LAC would never though.

Well, shouldn't say never if they get Chauncey back healthy and if they have faith in Bledsoe becoming a quality starting pg

Wade AND Bosh for Howard + filler.

Just trying to make it realistic for Orlando.

Clippers would do it. Paul only has one year left on his contract and won't re-sign with them. Wade has four years left.

Too early to consider.
but, i would guess the only thing that will change is the coach.

Chalmers, Wade and Bosh for Nelson, Redick, Ryan Anderson, and Howard?

Nelson, Redick, Lebron, Anderson, Dwight would be a better overall starting 5 than the Heat have right now.  Solid bench of Cole, Miller, Battier, Jones, Haslem, Joel Anthony.

And Orlando will never get anywhere within a light year of that kind of value for Dwight in a trade.

Lebron will not thrive on a team with a guy that needs the ball in his hands all the time, like Chris Paul.

It is too early to speculate about this.  Bring this thread back if the Heat lose.

Where have you seen that CP won't re-sign?  Only thing I've seen is that he likely will.

Wade is realistic for Orlando.  I mean what team can offer a better package than Wade and I mean that seriously.
