I remember a few months back that there was talk here about how teams cannot hope to win without top tier talent. Does celticsblog still think this is the case?

They do. They have 3.

But those 3 are not superstars. Unless you think that Ginobli, Duncan (of right now) and Parker is in the level of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Dywane Wade, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard.

I don't know if Parker is at the level as those stars but he was considered top 3 pgs (if not fighting CP3 for first) this season by many. Now add Ginobli and Duncan (star veterans) to him and you have 3 guys that are stars and championship savy winners (with each other)! I mean those 3 together are better than the best 3 on MOST teams in the NBA... with Celtics (PP, KG, RR... not Ray at this point), Miami, and Lakers having a better 3 players put together. Then, add their surrounding talent (system and coach) are just put together and play their roles better than most teams (they haven't won it all yet but it looks good for them, I'm just not counting my team out lol)! You'd have to think of 3 better players on one team than I have thought of because it's too late or early lol... there might be more but I can't think of any. They may not be superstars at this point in there careers (again, I might argue that Parker is) but together they make at least 1 superstar... even at their ages, either of them can take their team on their back any given game (less so because of age for Manu and Duncan of course), and carry them to victory (Manu game 1 also some of game 2... Parker game 2)!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

They won championships together before most of these people you mentioned even joined the NBA.

Who cares if they're not flashy superstars like the other guys you mentioned, they've been there before and that's why they're playing so well now. Besides most of these players are egomaniacs that haven't won jack despite being in the league for nearly a decade. There's more to winning a championship than just being a "superstar".

-A good supporting cast
-A good coach
-Reliable go-to guy
-Experience
-Good defense
-Good offense

The Spurs have all of these things, all the Heat has is a few superstars while everyone else on the team are scrubs who randomly show up in the playoffs after being invisible for most of the regular season.

actually they do have superstars. two of them. one of them being manu. the other being kawhi leonard. he's the second best player on the team, should have been rookie of the year - he's just completely under the radar. look him up on wagesofwins.com they go into detail about it.

additionally, they have the deepest bench in the whole league. larry bird is in no way the executive of the year since he traded away the draft pick of leonard for george hill. the spurs are the smartest team in the league.

Tony Parker finished 5th in the league in MVP voting.  Not sure how that means he isn't a super superstar.

Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

Tony Parker is without question a "superstar."  He was a very good choice for MVP this year.

You are subjectively defining what a "superstar is," and my guess is your criteria is based on how many sneaker or Gatorade commercials these guys have.

I also think it is ironic that you suggest teams require a "superstar" to win, but of the 8 players you list only 2 have NBA championships, and all but one of them belong to Kobe.

And I don't care how old Tim Duncan is.  If he is not a "superstart," no one is.

I agree that team ball can win out over super star ball.

OKC is weak inside and lacks defense pressure ... They will loose this series soundly.  OKC will be lucky not to go down 4-0.

SPurs are like last years MAvs ..loaded top to bottom with talent.

Duncan is a top 10 player of all-time. Easily passes Kobe with another title.

I don't think anyone said it can't happen its just extremely uncommon and rarely happens. I mean, that's pretty much a fact.

Its like football teams can win without a good qb but its rare

Stars win in the nba and when they don't its a rare occurrence and you pretty much have to have the perfect complementary role players which isn't too easy to do

Agreed. I would say they are both better than Melo. Parker was also 2nd team all NBA this season. Ginobili missed too many games (as usual) to have a chance at that. If not for health, Ginobili could be considered at the level of that group (excluding Anthony, who doesn't deserve to be among those names yet). Problem is he is always getting injured. But he is healthy now.

Duncan may be old, but he is still Duncan. He can bring it in the playoffs, even if Pop doesn't like to ride him hard in the playoffs.
