I never understood this.

Is it possible that we have the worst bench in NBA history?

I never hear anyone other then Celtics fans complain about our bench, they all talk about how the Lakers and Heat bench are so bad, but the Celtics bench never gets brought up.

I mean our bench can barely score a basket, has there ever been a worse bench? Our bench scoring 2 points in a game is almost a miracle.

I understand Ryan Hollins being bad, but shouldnt the rest of these guys be able to contribute at least a tiny bit? None of them can even hit a single shot.

Stack - C'mon Man.

Our bench wasn't horrible when Stiemer was getting us 10 pts, 2 blocks, and a bunch of rebs in game 4. And as for last game - the entire team was missing shots, not just the bench.

And didn't Pietrus go for like 13 in game 3?

Don't forget the negatives, of course, but keep in mind the positives, too.

wow... give me a half-decent backup PG and this might have been one pretty good bench unit!

Then again, injuries... :-X

The bench is terrible because most of the guys who were expected to be the bench are injured and out for the season or no longer on the team. The bench now consists mostly of guys who should be the 10th through 15th players on a roster and includes players who probably should not be in the NBA. I continue to be puzzled as to what people expect from this team. The first three guys off the bench now are Pietrus, Dooling and either Hollins or Stiemsma. Again, what do you really expect these players to generate in terms of offense? The answer -- little to nothing. The first three guys of the bench should be Bass, Green and Bradley. That would be a real bench.

Because Danny Ainge is a terrible GM. Even if the guys that are injured were health, I still believe our bench would be awful.

Apart from Avery Bradly (who I openly admit I was wrong about, and Ainge was right about) Ainge has made some absolutely GARBAGE signings. Repeatedly. He's seemingly incapable of finding role players with at least one or two NBA-level skills.

I say this offseason Danny should cut every single bench player we have, and sign only offensive minded players, im tired of these defensive benches, we cannot score, hell the starting lineup can barely score.

We need offensive minded players, all of them, thats what the bench should be comprised of. Scorers and shooters.

Convince me that the Celtics have a worse bench than the Bobcats.  Or that it's even close.

Yes, let's have Ainge go out and find a bunch of quality scorers that will be available for the minimum or something close to it. That sounds super easy to do. Guys who can score in bunches off the bench are few and far between and those who can typically have some major flaw. One of those guys might work out, but not multiple.

I think the idea of getting rid of a defensive minded bench is absurd. The second unit isn't there to be your go-to scoring option. The purpose of the backups are to keep the game from getting out of hand while the starters rest. Nothing quite accomplishes that task like stout defense. As long as the bench can keep the other team from scoring and pulling away, I don't mind if they're limited offensively.

Brandon Bass is suppose to be one of our bench players.

You got Bass, Bradley, or a healthy Ray Allen, Jeff Green, Wilcox, Steamer, and Pietrus.

That would have been a solid deep bench.

But injuries and other things changed everything and now we have to just go out and play with what we got.

Injuries.

We're supposed to have Bass, Wilcox, Jeff Green, Pietrus, Bradley as our bench.

JO got even more bummer
Wilcox and Green lost for season
Now Avery is done for the season

It's not like we have a horrible bench, we just have bad luck.

Aye, a lot of our bench, Bradley and Bass have started all year.   We should have never went into the season with the pukebag, Jermaine O'Neal, dude was heartless.
