I swear, this trio of KG, Pierce and Ray are like the heart break hotel. They've all been relatively healthy, but every year since 2008 it's mostly been key injuries to important young players or good role players that have just killed us.
1. They win in 2008 with a good roster and health and ever since it seems they've been paying for it.
2. 2009 - If KG doesn't get injured, I think we may have very likely raised another banner. That team, thin though it was, was crushing people. I think KG and pierce were still dominating enough and young enough to carry a thin team to another title if KG had been healthy.
3. 2010 - Perkins goes down in game 6. When was the last time you saw a starting player go down and out in game 6 of the NBA finals? Just tough luck.
4. 2011 - Rondo gets whacked by Wade, just killed our chances. Also Shaq goes down - I think had Shaq and Rondo been healthy, we may have raised another banner.
5. 2012 - This year it's what, Jermaine, Wilcox, Jeff Green and now Bradley and you can also tell Steamer has some serious foot issues as well. Amazingly, even with the permanent player losses we've had this year, if we just had a 100% healthy Avery Bradley, I think we'd be a lock for the finals again!!! He would have made all the difference defensively on Wade in the next round...
Just tough, tough, tough injury luck for this veteran trio of KG, Pierce and Ray.
Heart Break Hotel.
Love these guys - they just have had terrible luck with injuries to the players they've needed around them in order to deliver the goods.
I think with better luck with health to the players around them, often time the younger players around them, they may well have delivered us 2-3 rings during this five year run.
