My apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I know the season hasn't ended yet and this premature, but I can't help but wonder what this team may look like post-Big Three. I've watched a lot of the Sixers this season and Spencer Hawes has really impressed me this season. Given the C's cap situation this offseason and our need for bigmen, I can't help but wonder if we'll pursue him.

He's exactly the type of big that will be successful with Rondo and he's one of the few worthwhile unrestricted free agents this offseason. I personally love the idea, but I'm curious to know what other fans think.

He could be good off the bench. I would still take Bass/Steamer/Green over Hawes though.

Get out the checkbook, because he is going to be expensive.

Now, if they were determined to get a starting center this summer (other than KG), then he is the best of the bunch IMO, but he will still be a big risk for the money it will take to sign him.

Audition -- this playoff series will be an audition for Hawes. To show what he can offer the C's.

He's pricing himself with these playoffs.

Someone's going to overpay him and I don't think it'll be the Celtics.

Seems like there's a guy or two in every playoffs who places their way into a rich deal that ends up being an albatross down the road.

Hell no.

OMG, I guess you only watched last 76ers game.

He is inconsistent, doesn't play good defense, doesn't rebound well, doesn't like to play inside. He is basically a guard in a center's body. He is a Brad Miller type of player.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having him for the right price but he is going to get overpaid this summer.

He is probably going to get Deandre Jordan's money.
I don't want see C's make that mistake.

I'd rather sign Ersan Ilyasova this summer. He's much more talented and can be likely had for significantly less money.

This will be interesting to see.  I really have no idea what it will take to sign Ilyasova, just because I think he will be getting bigtime offers from Europe which teams will have to compete with.

But, if you can get him for say $6 million per year, versus $11 million per year, I take Ilyasova too...and I am a huge Hawes fan.

eh, he is a brad miller type player.

There are many other big men I would rather give money to in 2012 and 2013 .

D12
Josh Smith
Hibbert
Ibaka
Big Al
Illiasova
Ryan Anderson
Kaman (maybe)
Millsap ( maybe)

Now if we can add one of those guys we will be in business.

I was very impressed with Hawes early in the season (top 15 center) but I thought he struggled after he hurt his achilles (top 30 center).

I haven't been watching the Sixers-Bulls series so I am not sure what type of shape he is in physically now but I thought he looked poorly in the closing stretches of the regular season.

Hawes hasn't really spent long enough playing at a high level (only really 15-20 games) to convince me to invest the major dollars in him that it would take to pry him away from Philadelphia but he is an intriguing young center. His inability to regain his early season form after injury worries me especially given his poor performances for much of his young career.

Bottom line, intriguing but hasn't done enough to convince me to shell out major money on him.

I've actually watched the 76ers all season, and yes he's inconsistent (but really, who isn't these days?), but he's made big strides this year. He just turned 24, what's to say he can't improve further and in different facets of the game?

Guy's made of glass, among other things. Also, I expect some desperate team to throw a wad of cash in his direction. Stay away, get someone for a 1-year deal, and angle for 2013 free agency.

I agree. I love Ersan's game. He wants to get paid and I don't blame him. I read an article about him, this is what he said:

Quote from: IrsanIlyasova

"When I look at it I have to remember that it's a business," said Ilyasova. "Some teams overseas wanted to buyout my contract but I wanted to finish this season in the NBA. This is where I want to be right now, but we will see what happens in the future. Financially, whoever pays me more will be the team that I decide to sign with."

I'm not sure how they compare on defense, but while a slightly higher percentage of Hawes' shots are jumpers, Ilyasova's range extends beyond the arc and he took a decent number of threes at a high percentage.  I would like for the Celtics to add a big whose range extends farther than that of Brandon Bass.  A big who can space the floor and hit a trailing three in transition would be an excellent fit in a team built around Rondo.  My main concern is that Ilyasova has had only one season of outstanding three-point shooting.
