This is another one of those "Rondo had a triple-double, but did he have a great game?" nights.
Awesome question.

His defense was god awful.

His rebounding was excellent.

His decision making was poor.

His passing was great.

His shooting was really bad.

His ability to create turnovers was very good.

Overall stats say triple double is great.

Overall effect on the game is he gave up as much as he contributed.
Good summary. Triple doubles mean about the same thing to me as the Heisman Trophy - nothing.

With that said, after three quarters, Rondo was deep in the negative column. Thought he played much better - and much more intelligently - in the fourth period and even more so in overtime. Good job increasing the offensive tempo in the extra period.

Man, what a huge **** game that was! I'm actually glad that the Celtics won that kind of game. This and the previous one are the kinds of games that gets this Celtics squad locked in and playing their best basketball. Yes, a lot of the mistakes down the stretch really threatened to give us a very, very disappointing loss tonight, but Joe Johnson was just monstrous, and who could predict bradley missing a wide open dunk, or rondo messing up that wide open lay-up? I don't think anyone could have predicted that. I'm glad the game ultimately went the way it did.

You don't ever want to see games like that when they're live, because they're so stressful, but boy am I ever happy the Celtics won in this ugly, grind it out fashion.

Great game IMO. You just don't get 17 pts, 12 assists, and 14 rebounds unless you are Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson, or you had a great game.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I don't know where you're getting you're info from, but Rondo rested for about 5 minutes. Also, Steamer played about 6 minutes, too.

His defense was nowhere close to god awful.  His shooting and his early turnovers were bad, but this game was butt-ugly.  His net contribution was strongly positive.

In the first three quarters, we would have been better had he rested some more and Pierce ran the offense.

And yes, his defense was atrocious. Our net defense against Teague fell off the end of the earth tonight. Always gambling. Made Teague look like Chris Paul.

Are we talking about the guy who runs the offense, does the most rebounding, covers the fastest guys...thru picks...hard layups....hit by bigs.....where are you getting your info from...5 minutes...really.....how many games have you played that you are saying this from....?

Yeah, I agree. Rondo made his mistakes. But no one was perfect.

He is frustrating at times, but he is clearly one of the best. You can't get those stats by accident. And it's not like we were shooting lights out tonight to get him all the assists.
