I dont get it, why are so many football players commiting suicide?
Brain damage from concussions. I remember hearing a neurosurgeon talking about the autopsy he performed on a former all-pro player and how bad the brain looked.

Brain damage can change your personality and you affective style. Getting brain damage in one place can make you less depressive, in another, more depressive. Concussions are serious news.

am i the only one that thinks a gunshot wound to the chest is an odd way to commit suicide??

obviously i dont know all the details but that just seems really awkward considering all the other direct painless options.  not to sound insensitive or anything, but thats just the first thing that popped into my head.

I suppose it's a bit peculiar, but I think it'd be unlikely for the police to determine it 'self inflicted gun shot' - particularly in such a high profile situation - unless there was absolutely no question about it.

Total speculation here.

Perhaps he wanted his brain researched much like Dave Duerson (former Bears player who committed suicide last year) did to see the effects of concussions.

I'd tend to agree w/ that speculation -

My guess is that if he was inside his head enough to take his own life, than he had probably spent time speculating the damage football cause his brain.

This is also the conclusion that TMZ came too.  Duerson apparently texted his family members before pulling the trigger asking them to donate his brain.

Probably the same reason Seau shot himself in the chest.

Strangely it happens pretty often.  I used to work at the medical examiners office and we'd get a good amount of self inflicted shots to the chest.

I pretty much agree with everyone else that his brain was most likely in horrible shape, especially playing how long he did, and at such a high level.  I also think that steroid use probably played a role too.  I'm speculating but I would think he didn't cycle off correctly and didn't have enough testosterone in his body, which is known to bring about depression.  I'm curious to know his testosterone levels after his tox work comes back from the autopsy.

RIP.

The NFL is on the road to a very diluted form of the sport. The guys are too strong and powerful today .
Full fledged tackle football as we know it may not be around in 20 years. The QB's willbe first to be OFF limits to tackle.

NFL maybe in trouble or unreconizable 50 years from now.

RIP Jr.

Evidently, Seau is the 8th player from the '94 Chargers to pass away before age 45.

That's pretty insane.  :o
