Our 2008 title team was referenced earlier, which I'm convinced nobody actually remembers.
Doc rested all of the big 3 in Game 81 and rested Rajon while playing the big 3 very light minutes in Game 82. Heck, he began to rest guys in Game 77. In a 3 point win over Milwaukee, Posey, House, R Allen, Davis, and Powe all played more minutes than Pierce, T Allen, Garnett, Rondo, Perkins.
For those who say we needed home court to win the title, that could be considered true, but even if we win all these remaining games, we will only have home court in Round 1. If this team so desperately needs home court to exit Round 1, then it is doomed on the road against Miami, Chicago, etc... in Round 2. I'd like to think the goals are loftier than winning Round 1. And there is no number of games we can win that gives us home court in Rounds 2, 3, or the Finals.
I say rest everybody. KG. Paul. Ray. Rajon. Bass.
We ended that regular season 7 games up on the #2 ranked Pistons. Just off that, without looking any further (such as possibly finding out which game we clinched cause ESPN doesn't have it), I find it hard to believe we didn't have the #1 seed clinched with 3 games left. So, if we wanted to rest guys up at that point like the Spurs have this season, have at it! That's the luxury of a clinched #1 seed; there's nothing left to play for until the playoffs.
The thing about HCA vs Health kinda goes both ways, too. Let's say we rest our guys on the final game of this season, since it'll probably be decided by on whether we have HCA in the 1st round or not. We play Friday, and if we're ok after that, we have four days until the Heat (at home) on Tuesday. If we can't get through that without injury, then aren't we that much more likely to be hurt in the playoffs when minutes are amped up?
Keep in mind that Rondo, Ray, Pietrus had to sit out last night anyways, with the latter two sitting out Tuesday as well. So if they are truly healthy to go Friday, you can't say they've had no rest. KG and Pierce did get to rest Sunday, too. It's not like anyone's really been run into the ground the last week, for one reason or another.
