Of course this is a toughie

but can rondo be named all NBA this year

The competition is

Wade, Westbrook, Chris paul, tony parker, nash, kobe, deron williams,

Honestly 1st team is out of reach with Kobe and Wade locking that up by default

2nd team parker is going to be given a spot, but is there a shot for rondo to take the other guard position?

He won't be.

Westbrook, Paul, Parker, Rose, Nash, Rondo, and Williams are the top candidates from the PG group.

Then from SGs you have:

Kobe, Wade, Joe Johnson, James Harden, and Manu

So 6 slots for 12 guards, I don't see how Rondo gets on the team. Maybe if they put a fourth PG it'd be Rondo, but I'm betting it would be Rose.

This really is a Golden Age for point guards in the NBA right now.

Agree that it'll be tough for Rondo to make it but he's certainly deserving to be in the discussion.

It's very close. I think Rondo will either be one of the last names on or first names left off.

Wow Rose has only played in 35 games, 11 less than Rondo despite Rondo's own injury.

I just can't imagine Rose not being on the team, even with all the time he's missed. Has an MVP from the previous year ever not been on the all-nba team the next year? (probably Russell way back, but recently?)

First guess was Iverson but he was second team All-NBA next year.

Next guess was McAdoo and that was right. He failed to make an All-NBA team the next year after winning the MVP in 1975. Not sure if there is anyone more recent than that.

When is the last time an MVP missed at least a third of the following season?

Joe Johnson is not deserving, I doubt a bench player is getting an All NBA vote in Manu, James Harden all-NBA?? Also, Rose missed over 1/3 of the season, it'd be hard to put him on because of that, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him on there. Rondo is the best passing PG in the league period, it's very hard to argue that. He's also an all defense candidate--he's gotta be on there.

Has manu even played this year? Has he ever been all nba?

If Rondo continues this hot streak and the Celtics continue to have success I think he has a shot at 3rdRondo team

Kobe, Wade, CP3, Tony Parker would be my guess.

Deron's been on a losing team and hasn't been significantly better than the other top PGs so I don't think he gets the nod. Manu and Rose have been injured too much.

Westbrook and Rondo get pushed out. Parker gets the nod because it seems like people recognize that he's been the anchor for that team this year (although I wouldn't be surprised if Westbrook got it). Chris Paul has flat out had the best season as a PG.

Rondo will likely get recognized on the All-defensive team again. If he keeps up this assist streak it might create some buzz for him though, but I doubt he'll get All NBA.

I don't think the non-Kobe/Wade SGs are as good as the current PG crop.

He's been all-nba 3rd team twice, and you're right he hasn't played nearly enough to make the team this year.

There are 3 all-nba squads, so two more guards.

If I had it my way, he would be 1st team, but my guess is he will be 3rd team. I would be thrilled if he got 2nd team. I dont see how the league leader in triple doubles and assists cant be on any of the 3 teams.

Rose and CP3 are locks. Deron has no chance, but not because he's playing for the lowly Nets, because he doesn't receive media love CP3 always does.
Nash is going to take the 3rd team honors, I guess.
