If you're listing the top defensive guards, you can't leave Rondo off the list.

Avery is already a much better off the ball defender then Rondo.

Where Rondo can play elite on the ball defense, Avery does play elite on the ball defense every play. His willingness to play hard defense every play sets him apart from alot of NBA players.

Watch the games. Bradley's tenacity sometimes works against him, as he'll end up out of position (in terms of staying between his man and the basket) because he's so focused on pressuring the ball. Also note that players challenge Bradley more than Rondo.

Tony Allen at the moment, but Avery Bradley is young and still has potential and a pretty good ceiling. Ask me again in a few years lol

That depends on your definition of what constitutes a good off the ball defender.  I would agree that Avery shows a better ability to chase guys running through off the ball screens, but nobody's better at anticipating and stepping in passing lanes and disrupting offense as an off the ball guard defender than Rajon Rondo.

Tony is a better defender, more length, more proven track record, more ability to guard multiple positions (1-3), and more respect from the refs probably.

Though I wouldn't be suprised if Bradley was better against smaller quicker players or at pressuring the ball coming up the court.

This, plus AB is an undersized SG at 6-2.  Expect to see a lot more post-ups in the future like Wade did unsuccessfully (but on an-off night for Wade too).

Tony can guard mor epositions and has been doing it at this level longer. But that's not really a knock on Bradley, it's like saying Durant is the second best small forward in the game.

Tony Allen because he's able to guard 3 positions.

And he's a veteran.

can anyone imagine if we had T. Allen still and all three Allen, Bradley and Rondo was on the court? Rivers dream backcourt for defense and fast breaks

Rondo gambles too much, he's done a GREAT job this season in just playing solid defense... but again SA he was starting to get too overaggressive.

it's too early to make that comparison in my opinion. TA proved his worth in crunch playoff time. although i think AB has more skills on the court, he just needs time to keep proving himself. AB has so much more potential than TA i.m.o, i always think back to TA's injury on that stupid dunk attempt. i firmly believe if that never happened he would be a lot better.

A good offense is the best defense? If they take you off the floor because you offer nothing offensively then you aren't the better defender really.

I'm going with Bradley by virtue of speed

If Tony Allen fell out of bed one morning and found that he had shrunk 2 inches, added a shot, and picked up about 20 points in BBIQ, he'd be Avery Bradley.

That said, TA's size makes him the more valuable defender at the moment, but not the more valuable player.

Bradley, he is more reliable in terms of health.  Tony was constantly hurt.

I think Bradley is a bit better than TA (better at chasing his man through screens, ball pressure and biting on upfakes) however, TA is a more versatile defender. I dont think Bradley can guard a whole lot of 3s, and I believe the versatility in the positions you can guard (2 positions vs 3) is a very important aspect of defense, so by that virtue, TA is a better option.

I really like TA but I don't miss his bonehead plays and bad shot selection.

How's Tony doing this year?  Haven't really heard much about him.
