He didn't have as many big moments as Bradley, and certainly not as much as Rondo and some other players out there, but I always notice this; defense hasn't always gotten the respect it truly deserved, unless of course that defense comes in the form of a fancy block or something.

Dooling's defensive ability, his speed, and especially his speed of movement on offense, which may not lead to him scoring very much, but usually messes with the positioning of the defense, enough for someone to get a decent shot off, is such a vastly underrated aspect of this guy's game.

This is the second Dooling thread I've made so far, but it's primarily because we would be insane not to keep this guy around as long as he's healthy and keeps playing defense like that. It isn't easy to lose this guy on defense at all, and he has the speed and athleticism to keep up with very elite players. That is something we should all take note of. Every player has their use, and we've got a [dang] good defender in Dooling. And if he can occasionally knock down that open shot for us, even better.

Everyone has their use, and I think this Celtics squad has pieces for a championship. No joke. They are deceptively one of the best teams in the league, and have been this way all season.

totally agree. Dooling is a great defender and a pest. That unforced turnover on the jazz was a great example of his defense the other day.

Fans don't like him, Danny and Doc like him, ergo we keep him (yeah, Danny's gonna trade a guy because some forum nerds capslockflame him - no offense).

He's got an ugly release, almost worse than Rondo's, a huge sky-high arc and his offense seems to be running into the corner and handing the ball to someone else or shooting a wide open three and missing it (well not always).

Remember the start of the season when he got more playing time with the first squad? He used to always be open, always make the right pass and always hit threes. Lately, Doc's been utilizing him as... Well as he's been utilizing the whole second team - "just go out there and play for a few minutes until the first team gets rested, don't blow our 20 point.. oh who am I kidding". And that's kind of the most they can do right now. Doc will have time to work with them and tweak both units come pre-playoff break and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of Dooling and Hollins in the first round.

I think it's his both offensive and defensive play that's being overlooked. Even Jeff Van Gundy called him an incredibly smart player.

I agree completely. His the offensive aspect of his game is vastly overlooked as well. He just clearly has an issue with confidence, nothing more.

His speed with the ball on offense opens up opportunities for the Celtics that just aren't there under normal circumstances. It forces other teams to really work harder on the defensive end, and that can only be good for us. However, whenever Dooling is in there just watch this guy's defense. He's [dang] good. The problem is usually just that people focus on a lead being lost, not often realizing that Dooling is doing a great job out there defensively. It gets noticed more when the team is scoring in addition to this, however. However, you can just see in the way that any person being defended by dooling yesterday was forced to respect his ability to keep up with them. They instead ended up taking the kinds of shots we wanted them to take.

He could be our Lindsay Hunter.

Always a spot for someone like that on the team.

OFFENSE TAKEN!

Just kidding. I hated on JO but I never hated on Keyon.

Another guy who gets hated on is Sasha. He grabbed 5 rebounds in 14 minutes. Give props to him too please.

Oh yea, Sasha is also a great defender and he hustles his behind off!

I can't believe I forgot Sasha. Sasha works so [dang] hard out there on the court. He's another player the Celtics need to hold onto.

He doesn't move well offensively and it still bugs me how the hell Ray didn't teach him some tricks yet. Defensively he's never out. I saw that a couple of times a player beats him, Sasha goes way behind the ball handler, and he still somehow manages to back him off a drive. We got a pretty good second unit, mostly based on defense. Bringing Ray in it would improve it greatly, I guess. It's been my idea for a while, just never figured Bradley could be starting material so fast.

Dooling is a very steady defensive player.  But when his shot isn't falling bloggers tend to trash his whole game.

Fans around here give our players such bad wraps. Doolings head has been on the chopping block all season without anyone really giving him a chance. He is stsarting to get into his rhythm and the chemistry is getting better. To me, he has fit in very nicely for us and is only going to get stronger and better for us as the season moves along.

I've noticed his shot doesn't fall when he has to handle the back up PG duties. That's the problem with the second unit and the whole team besides Pierce. The majority of their success is tied to Rondo. This offseason we need to invest in a TRUE pg whether it be the draft or free agency. We can't keep getting undersized SGs who can't run the offense efficiently.

Did he even play in the 4th Q? He played well, defensively. Anything the bench contributes will always be a major bonus. I know that Dooling hasn't played consistently well, but he's been in the league for 10+ years and knows a little something about pro basketball.
