The Rondo Triple-Double Ticker

It's impressive, but didn't Larry Bird once say that he could have had a triple double any time he wanted to, but it wasn't always what the team needed?  Stats are nice and all, but triple doubles are really pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of life.

The important thing about Rondo's game today was that he controlled the game, and came up huge in the win.

Ultimately I agree but a triple double is a testament to how dynamic and versatile rondo is in how he contributes.

Curious to know our win loss record in the games he's had a triple double.

I think Larry is right - but I also think that could've been a Rondo quote. He can get the triple-double almost "at will" as well - he just chooses not to show up half the time

The Celtics have won every game in which Rondo has recorded a triple-double except for the double-overtime game four of the 2009 playoff series against the Bulls.  So, he's now 12-0 in the regular season and 5-1 in the playoffs.

While this is true (and i think Bird said he could average a triple double) I think these are stats that stand out and can only help the team.  VERY much like our sf Paul Pierce's rebounding stats that last group of games.  This is a guy who had no rebounds against the Lakers but has been putting up nice 7 and above rebound games for awhile.  This is helping the team just like rondo driving to the hoop to get his points or starting his own fast break by getting a rebound (of course the assists will always be there for someone with his vision)

  Bird was one of probably 5-6 players ever that could get a triple double whenever they wanted. People like to say triple doubles are irrelevant, but not as many claim that making largish contributions in those facets of the game is irrelevant.
