This article just showed up on ESPN front page this evening: Click the pretty linky

Obviously, Steve Nash doesn't outright come and say "I will sign with the Heat." The article even notes it could be just a move to get more money. That said, it is important what he said:

Quote
"I'm not coming back to the Suns if there isn't improvement," Nash told Patrick.

And, in answer to a question about going to the Heat to join LeBron James:

Quote
"I would listen," Nash said. "He's phenomenal. I love what they're doing there. A lot of people don't like them because they put all that talent there. But they're professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching staff has done a great job, so I have a tremendous amount of respect for them.

"I would definitely listen."

Would it really surprise anyone if he did? Take a pay cut (the Heat won't be able to offer much...) to be far and away the favorites to win the championship. It would be nigh impossible, except for injury luck, to keep that team from winning, especially if they get an upgrade at the 5 position and/or Norris Cole develops into a 6th man (which seems entirely possible, given his clear talent). He can be a Nate Robinson type player.

Honestly? I would absolutely love for this to happen. I know a lot of people have an incredible, blind hatred towards the Heat, but hear my case, here.

Next year, the Celtics will almost certainly not be contenders in any way shape or form. There are people that argue they aren't this year, and I disagree, but let's not talk about that in this thread, mkay? Anyway, it is incredibly likely next year's team, as we can all agree, will not be a contender. If they are lucky with the draft and free agency, they might be a decent fringe play-off team.

Without the Celtics to seriously root for (though I always will, bleed green), I won't mind as much if the Heat dominate the rest of the East. I certainly do not want the Heat to win THIS year, I would hate it if that happened, if they grabbed Steve Nash? I would pull for them, honestly (at least in games not vs. the Celtics!).

Think about the media storm that would follow this! Think how conflicted every NBA fan would be if this happened? Steve Nash: universally adored, the Heat: almost universally despised. Nobody would know what to do. This would be the most divisive sports story in the past 5 years! It would create endless story-lines, give a future HOFer one last real shot for a ring, and provide breathtakingly good basketball to watch.

I also just LOOOOVE the sound of this storyline: LeBron James and Chris Bosh go to join Dwyane Wade in Miami to win "not one, not two ..." championships. The Decision, one of the most infamous media debacles in the history of the sport, and the way James screwed over Cleveland, to almost insure a chance at creating a dynasty. However, despite the hype, the Heat stumbled against veteran HOFers Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki and the veteran Dallas Mavericks squad in the NBA Finals. The Heat stormed back the next season to avenge their loss, plugging some holes in their team and adapting as players (LeBron, for example, focuses on his post game). However, the Heat's holes are too big, and are exploited by [insert your favorite team here] in the playoffs. Under intense media scrutiny, and echoes of "FAILURE" ringing across ESPN and the basketball world, 38-year-old HOFer Steve Nash joins them in free agency. His experience and wiles were needed to carry this athletic "super team" to a ring.

Not only would it be pretty satisfying in this sense, but the fact that they need to add Steve Nash, an old unathletic but effective point guard, virtually diffuses the concept of a "Big 3" superstar tandem. Even with that massive amount of talent, with 3 perennial all-stars (one a Finals MVP), they still need the seasoned veteran.

with Jeremy Lin's emergence and marketing value in NY, Nash is running out of options to join a contender. The Thunder and the Bulls are all set at pg, and the lakers are in good shape with Sessions, although I still think Nash would be a great fit on the lakers. So it comes down to LA or Miami if he wants a ring, and as much as I hate Miami, I prefer to see them win than to see the lakers pass us in number of titles.

The Suns have a fair bit of cap space this summer. They won't be able to create a title contender but they should be able to make enough progress, make a large enough improvement, with that cap space to convince Nash to re-sign and give it another go.

So, I would be pretty surprised if he left Phoenix this summer.

However, with that all said, I fully believe that Nash should leave the Suns. He should go and play for a Championship. Not for some middle of pack incompetently run organization. He'll be kicking himself ten-twenty years from now if he doesn't. He is wasting the final good years of his career.

I'd love to see him go back to Dallas.  That would be fun.

I agree, although for a 38 year old guy the Suns medical staff and trainers must be a huge draw, they are by far the best in the NBA.

If Dwight Howard stays in Orlando, they'd be the team I want to see Nash join.

I'd love to see Nash join a good playoff team and lift them into title contender status rather than simply joining a team that is already a contender and being just another good piece. He is still so good and capable of so much. I don't want to see him in a reduced role when he can still be the star-player and leading man on a team.

Steve Nash and Dwight Howard would be a terrific combination.

I'd also really love to see Nash on the Indiana Pacers. He'd do wonders for guys like Granger, George and David West. That squad would improve immensely with a top notch playmaker.

The Atlanta Hawks is another fun one. Big men who are great open court players. JJ and Nash had a terrific connection in Phoenix. A team made for Nash's uptempo ways.

Portland could be fun too depending on what happens with their lottery picks. Joining LaMarcus Aldridge and say Jared Sullinger with Nic Batum and several other good pieces. Not sure they'll be able to make enough progress to be a title contender but they end up getting pretty close (with Nash) if they get some luck along the way.

I don't care if we miss the playoffs the next ten years I would never want the cheat (or fakers) to get better, I wish them to get close but never reach the mountain top... because I hate Kome and I want the little 3 to regret coming together so I can see how they turn on bosh!! Why would anyone want to see your team's rival win??? Oh well, I'll be the hater alone!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

The Heat aren't our rival. The Lakers are. The Knicks to a lesser extent. I could care less about the Heat, really. I want the Celtics to beat them wherever possible, but I feel that way about all teams. The Lakers are the only one worth hating.

If you really don't understand that the Knicks are our historic rival, I don't know what to tell you.  ::)

exactly what I thought as well, I hate both teams but I really don't want to see the Lakers tie us in championships nor do I want to see them pass us

sure Lebron is good and may/not get a ring...but I seriously doubt he'll win more than 3-4 rings
