Sorry if this has been posted somewhere already, but there was a very interesting interview with Doc on D&C this morning.

Quote
Rivers was asked what would happen if Austin was available when the Celtics were on the board but team president Danny Ainge did not want to select him.

"It wouldn't be a good moment in our room, I can tell you that. Meaning, we would have a huge argument, and then I would let Danny decide. And then if Austin went on to become a great player, I would rub that in Danny's face every day," he joked.

Added Rivers: "Danny is the expert in the draft. But I do know this draft. So, it would be interesting. That could happen, guys. And that would be the no-fun part of Austin being in the draft."

Rivers said he knows the players in this year's draft because he's seen them play with and against his son.

"I think it's deep," he said. "It's really deep. But I don't know how many superstars-deep it is, if you know what I'm saying. But this is going to be a very good draft."

As for Austin, "I just think his offensive ability is so good that, in our league, in a league where I think for the most part everybody is struggling scoring, you need guys that can create their own shot. We need one more guy like that."

I feel like that's about as clear as he can be without breaking any rules. He wants Austin if he's available when they pick. I suppose the question now is whether Danny wants him or not...

That was pretty candid and straight-forward. I guess my own line of "Doc doesn't want to coach his son" is pure baloney.

Has a father ever coached a son before in the NBA?

if we can land either Rivers or Royce White with either of our 1st round picks I will be extremely happy. Both can create their own shot like Doc mentioned(White can also create for others)

After Anthony Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist,Beal and possibly Barns , I think Rivers and White have the most potential to be all-star type players.

George Karl coached his son in Denver

Wasn't Doc's older son invited to summer league with Boston?

Eh, I think he is talking up his son (which father wouldn't), but he is also setting up a scenario where they will pass on him, and he can blame it on Danny.

I really don't think they want this situation.  Doc knows it would be dangerous, and he is hoping he doesn't have to explain to his son (or his wife) why it would have been a bad idea for him to try to coach him.

I immediately thought of them, but can't find a time when Sr. was head coach of a team that had Jr. (Golden State, Indiana, Milwaukee) on the roster.

I'm not sure this really confirms that Doc wants his son on the Celtics.

If anything, it seems he's just taking a chance to talk up his son, and provide plausible deniability if the C's do pass on him.

Personally, I don't think the C's will ever have a chance to draft him.  I just don't see Rivers lasting past pick 15, he's too good.  And honestly, I think Doc would rather that happen anyways.  But, if he does, the C's will have to pick him.  If he is still available, he will be the best player available almost assuredly.

With us winning the atlantic and all, we'll be picking like 21st and 24th.  Some mocks have Austin going in the top 10.  Maybe I'm delusional here, but I'm not sure how we'd be able to draft Austin unless we're packaging multiple picks to move up in the draft.

Yeah...I don't think he'll last that long either. But I'm not sure I see why everyone thinks Doc "knows it would be dangerous" like Chris said. Has he said anything to indicate that he'd be worried in the least about the situation? Maybe we all can see that there could be problems, but I don't know why people assume Doc is thinking that way.

Dunleavy Sr has never coached Dunleavy Jr.

Karl coached his son during preseason games.  He lobbied the front office to keep his son but was ignored.

If Doc ends up coaching Austin, it'll be easily the most high profile pairing, involving the setting of a cornerstone franchise and a player who was very highly ranked in high school and plays with an enormous amount of swagger.
