Perfect fit.  Another guy who doesn't know how to pass to compliment all the other volume shooters.  Who is running that team?

Wasn't Geoff Petrie at one time considered the cream of the GM crop?

Man, could this team screw over Tyreke Evans any more than they have?

Talk about creating a dysfunctional environment that is non-conducive to developing ... one of the most talented young guards that we have in the league today.

I absolutely hate what Sacramento's management and coaching staff have been doing there over the last few years. They have been absolute mess ever since Rick Adelman left town.

The whole front office and coaching staff needs to be replaced.

It's shocking.

How does a guy who built those great Kings teams build a team like this? How does he go this far wrong? And why doesn't he bloody well fix the mess instead of keep adding to it? I mean, my goodness, what the hell is he doing?

Nah, I take that back.

I still have some faith in Geoff Petrie. He still has a good eye for talent and has brought in two fantastic talents in Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins as well as a bunch of other talented young players over the years. Unfortunately, they just haven't been developed and Petrie needs to take a large dose of the blame for that but there is enough good stuff there for me to stick with him longer as long as some changes are made.

Sacramento need to get in a top notch coaching staff and actually replace Rick Adelman instead of continually hiring the cheapest available option (Muesselman, Theus, Westphal, Smart) + get Petrie more help in the front office. Those reports of the Kings' front office getting out-worked on the phones really bother me.

Handing Chuck Hayes a horrible contract tells me all I need to know about how bad the Sacto front office is.

Williams is actually a pretty competent passer. I don't like the signing for them though; that's not the type of attitude this team needs to add.

I wonder if this was his only option, as you'd have to think that his agent would heavily encourage him to play somewhere that would be a better situation for him to learn/progress.

The Kings have a history of handing out stupid contracts, so Sacramento is a good place to maximize your chances of being overpaid.  On the other hand, if I were an agent, I would steer my young players away from the Celtics because Ainge isn't going be wasteful with his bountiful cap space this summer.  Boston is a better destination for mature players who aren't as concerned with maximizing their income.

But my point is that I'd think that the best way to maximize his income would be to play on a team similar to the Celtics (not that I think this team would have much interest in him), where he got a half season to play around some real leaders and mature. Then look at other opportunities at a later point.

This is a kid who really does have all the talent in the world, he's just got to get his head on straight.

You maximize your income in the NBA by getting someone to overpay you on a long contract.  The best strategy is to fool some team into thinking you have more potential than you actually do, not in actually improving.

From a purely financial standpoint, Williams should go to the team that would be most likely to hand him a 4-year, $20m contract on the basis of a couple of months.

This is what happens when you are bad, but not really bad.  You end up in the middle to the end of the lottery and thus can't land the franchise player, but land players just good enough to stop you from being really terrible.  The Kings have actually made the right draft pick in virtually every draft, the players just aren't good enough.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

He can't be worse than Tyreke Evans has been.

The Kings may or may not draft well, but they make really stupid trades.  There is some question as to how much of the blame can be assigned to Geoff Petrie and how much of the Kings' problems have to do with bad ownership.
