Why give up a first round pick for Jordan Hill?

Surely they could have gotten someone better for that price tag.

Did more than we did to help their cause. I would have taken Jordan Hill...probably not for a 1st though

Part of me wonders if Fisher wsa moved just to prevent Kobe from lobbying for him to play so much. Hill is underwhelming to help them at the PF position.

Well seeing as we did nothing that wasn't hard to do.

Sessions is a big upgrade, but neither Eyenga nor Hill are going to bring much to the Lakers this year. Both will be bottom of the bench guys. Therefore, giving up 2 firsts today was certainly a steep price especially with Sessions expiring this year.

Clearly they viewed themselves as more of a contender this year than we did so they went all out to improve their chances. But they certainly paid a steep price for some iffy talent. If it wasn't for dumping Walton, it I would have counted both trades a losses.

Yeah, if they are relying on Hill to help them win in the playoffs they are in trouble.

I think its a good trade except the first rounder...

they upgraded their pg position and solidify their big man rotation with Hill

Getting out of that salary cost a little extra.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I really think that LA loses out in this one....I'm pretty sure that Kobe will miss Derrick Fisher.

DFish was, IMO, the heart and soul of that team.

Needed a clutch shot? DFish.

Needed someone to back Kobe up in the locker room? DFish.

Veteran leadership? DFish.

I still remember that crazy layup that Derrick converted on us back in 09-10 Finals...the one he made over KG, Glen, and I think one other player - in BOS. I think it was game 3?

Well, when things go wrong in LA (and they WILL go wrong), there's ONE less calming influence, right there.

Makes it easier for us to beat them IF we can make it to the Finals, along with them.

To get a first round pick.

What's a better return for Hill, a second round pick or Walton plus a first round pick?

It's a win-win trade.  The Rockets acquire a trade asset by renting next year's cap space when they are clearly in a controlled rebuilding mode until Morey can get out from under the contracts of Scola and Martin.  The Lakers shed enough salary for next season so that they become more willing to use their trade exception from the Odom deal over the summer.

It's bad armchair GMing to evaluate this trade based solely on how it impacts this season.
