i looked around on the forums and couldn't find this info
can we amnesty players squirted via trade or is that option limited to players currently on the roster?
if we miss out on howard this summer we are looking at trying to pry a player like mcgee or hibbard away from their teams.
so getting Mcgee this season makes some sense. i want no part of Blatche, he is an  incorrigible nincompoop.
i'd only take him on if we could amnesty him before he gets on a plane for boston.

I recently was informed that they must have been a part of the roster when the rule was put in place.
So no players acquired after then (even Brandon Bass) can be amnestied.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Worth noting the Stretch exception only applies to contracts signed under the 2011 CBA, Blatche's deal was signed under the old CBA and does not qualify for this exception.

Bottom line, we could NOT waive him and stretch his salary cap hit over 2x the length of the deal.

I expect to see Washington take advantage of the rule this summer.

They made a big mistake not using it this winter.
