I absolutely count the ones from Minneapolis.  That's where the franchise was at the time.  I think if it was any other franchise than the Lakers we wouldn't even think about it.  They were bitter rivals when they were in Minnesota too.

The ones that bug me more are things like the Baltimore Ravens winning a championship after they moved from Cleveland.  That team had old Browns players on it from the move, yet the lineage of the Ravens franchise supposedly restarted when it moved to Baltimore.

Look at it like a family tree.
Yup

In my mind, it comes down to organizations, rather than cities.  The Lakers have 16 titles as a franchise.

It's like an article I read once, that suggested that the Celtics have only won 13 titles, because the "real" Celtics franchise was swapped with the Clippers back in 1978 in an ownership + players swap.  While it's interesting to talk about, to me it's all nonsense.  The Lakers have 16 titles, and we have 17.

No way! Really?  Any chance you remember where the article was from?

I couldn't tell you; it was from a couple of years ago, and was a Celtics fan blog.  Other than that, no idea.  The basis of it was that the Celtics and Clippers essentially swapped franchises, and that the original Boston Celtics are actually playing in Los Angeles.

Haha I googled this and I came across the discussion between yourself and some other guys.  One of the posters dismissed this saying that it was only a change in the ownership and a few players were moved.  It's like Cuban and the Maloofs brothers switching ownership and swapping several players.  Certainly weird but the NBA was a different landscape back then.

When phrases like 'cases of beer' and 'rights to the icescapades' appear in trade packages, yes. WAYYYYYY different.

Didn't we beat the Minneapolis Lakers for a championship?  To discount theirs... wouldn't that also arguably discount ours?

It sounds like the people worried about it are concerned because they think the Lakers will catch us.  We still have a lead even if it's 17-16... let's hope we can widen that gap instead of worrying about semantics with their championships.
