just throwing this out there...is there something going on between pierce and rondo in the locker room over whose team this is...kg and ray play good...pierce and rondo...not so good...rondo and pierce went to the asg...kg and ray didn't...coincidence...not so sure...it seems like all year the fortunes and downfall of the team are when pierce and/or rondo play good or bad...coincidence...not so sure...

lol...that is a good one...i don't think they know who is running the team...a good asst to to ratio for a pg is 4 to 1...11/5 for rondo...6/6 for pierce...rondo scores over 30 2 games in a row...then goes 0/4 with 0 pts...there is an identity crisis...is that on doc's offense...or the players...

I'd say it has more to do with match ups.  We've got four guys who could have a match up advantage on any given night, which would explain why we don't really have a true number one scorer, even though Pierce is our leading scorer.

Perhaps.

I think the team does have an issue, though, when it's really difficult to say whether Rondo is going to go off for 30 or go scoreless on any given night.

Scoring isn't everything, but you need to be able to rely on your supposed "best player" to produce in that area with some consistency.

The fact that Rondo has fairly consistently high assist totals definitely makes up for the huge ups and downs in his scoring, at least to an extent.  The problem with that, though, is that because this team's offense is built almost entirely on jumpers, Rondo's ability to run the offense and stack up those assists is really dependent on whether the shots are falling.

In other words, Rondo is great at creating shots for others and finding guys when they are open, but with this team's personnel, those shots still aren't often terribly high percentage ones.

That's why it's important that Rondo remains consistently aggressive offensively in each game, looking for his own shot at least some of the time to keep things more balanced.  Rondo should be taking 10+ shots a game.

  • Rondo = Good
From the Daily Dime tonight:

Quote
That was ... weird: The Celtics won despite Rajon Rondo, their best player, going 0-for-6 from the floor and not shooting a single free throw. Rondo did finish with 11 assists, but his level of passivity on offense has become astounding. Rondo has never been a scorer, but he at least used to attack the basket whenever he had the opportunity to. Now, it looks like he wants to pass in every single situation, even if he has a better chance of scoring than a teammate does.

Couldn't watch the whole game, but I saw at least one time, where Rondo attacked the rim, got fouled and no call. Hard to get to the line in that situation. Same thing happened for KG a couple of times.

Not that it makes up for Rondo's missing aggresivity for most of the game...

I think rondo had 6 assists in first quarter though  :-\
when we were up 15 points or so there was good defense rebounding and FAST breaks, who cared who scored
game got sloppy with pp and rr racking up turnovers, turned into jump shooting contest

this ugly win is on doc, we looked like a playoff team that no one would want to play in 1st quarter to a .500 team the remaining part of game

I think its difficult for Rondo - when he had those 30 pt games, there was nearly universal whining that he wasn't getting the offense involved (sidenote: its really a weird phenomenon with Rondo where people consistently claim he can't score and that hurts the team, and when he proves he can, people get annoyed that he's not being a facilitator and he's hurting the team. But I digress). And then when he drops 11, 12, or more assists in the game - folks whine that he's too passive. So for him right now, he's trying to find a balance that makes everyone happy.

Maybe it hurt Pierce's feelings when Doc and KG called it Rondo's team in the beginning of the season (which by the way seemed a little disrespectful towards the Captain - it should be him handing over the reins, if any).

I agree with this.  You're probably right.

.a good asst to to ratio for a pg is 4 to 1.

A 4-1 ratio isn't good, its phenomenal...

How so Pierce has said himself it's Rondo's team now...
