Austin Rivers is the Key: Gasol - Rondo trade

People are such suckers for a story.

Just because his dad is our coach, doesn't mean we have a better shot at landing him than anybody else.. And it also doesn't mean Danny is more interested in getting him.

Sorry, this is a business. Danny isn't looking to get Austin Rivers.

[Edited.] This has nothing to do with doc. People like Austin for his skills. He can create his own shir with ease. He has a super fast first step. Unmatchable ISO game. The list increases with every game he plays. He's an hood player, and he's def on our radar.

Great scorer with a super nice jumper and ridic first step. However cant see him being a PG at all. His passing isnt fantastic and he has a 2G mentality. 6'4 isnt too bad for a SG these days considering the real lack of up and coming depth at the position.

Would be fantastic if he could put on say 10kg of muscle before the draft if he declares. He looks super skinny.

I'm not sure if I've seen this mentioned, but as people are continuing to talk about the void at PG, can anyone say - Austin Rivers???
This is the one area that people are forgetting about - Austin Rivers forcing his hand to play for his father.

This maybe the hope that Danny and Doc are seeing for this year's draft, trade Rondo, get Gasol to run with KG, PP, RA and Austin Rivers.

There is no VOID on the PG spot. Just some people that think Rondo is the reason why we are losing, and want him out.

Now going Rivers, as good as he is playing, he's a top 10 pick. So unless we do not make the playoffs or make some trades, he's unreachable.

I don't even like the Rondo for Gasol trade. That's 18 of our 20+ million in cap space gone, for a 32 yr old PF who we will play at Center and we know how soft he is as a Center (and I like Pau). We're better off getting young, starter or sixth man caliber combination of players and/or picks for ROndo than trading for Gasol. But I really believe were BETTER off having Rondo here. Triple DOuble machine PG for a somewhat reasonable contract.

There would definitely be a family struggle in the locker room at times.

Has an NBA coach ever coached their son ? Let alone a potential star player as their son?

Doc is a hard ass on young guys, he might be even harder on his son. Dunno if I like it.

I'm a Duke fan and let me tell you Austin Rivers is not a PG. He's a SG who's having to play Point and he's not that good at it. Shooting yes, PG stuff...... not so much.

Disagree vehemently with this post, and would note that people just don't seem to remember Russell Westbrook when they think about the PG position.

There are other capable points out there beside your beloved Rondo.

Austin Rivers is shooting a solid 40% 3-pters on 4.6 attempts per game.... for comparison, ray allen is 48.5% on 3's on 4.7 attempts per game.

I'm pretty sure if Austin forced a trade to his father, Comrade Stern would send Sith Lord assassins to deal with the problem.  Danny Ainge, Austin and his father would wake up next to Elvis with a kidney missing and a sign that said "Never again"

westbrook is a legit point guard who shoots a lot. Austin is a legit shooting guard who does his job, and is assigned point guard tasks every now and then.

Totally agree.  Austin Rivers is a 6'3" SG who cannot guard bigger guards...LOL that spells DISASTER.

The Celts will not waste a pick on this kid, they will lock up someone who has the potential to be a big time NBA player.  I mean Jeremy Lin is a far better bball player than Austin Rivers and he did it at Harvard.
