I agree that it probably should have been Smith, especially due to the lack of PFs. However, Rondo is a deserving All-Star and it'll be more fun for Celtics fan.

I'm surprised that you think Ray deserved it more.  Other than a hot start to the season when opponents weren't really covering him, I don't think Ray has been having such a great season.  

He's shooting pretty well from outside, but he rarely scores more than 12-15 points in any particular game, and he hasn't really brought much to the table other than his shooting.

Still, the fact that Ray started the season in such great shape and that his shooting has continued to be really good despite his age is truly remarkable.  He may be just a high level role-player at this point in his career, but he's still quite a player.

I don't think a team that is 2 games below .500 deserves to have two all-stars at all, but that's just me.

I think that's what our team is made of though.  We have four high-level roleplayers in our starting lineup with nobody to actually lead the way.

As for Ray vs. Rondo....maybe I shouldnt have said Ray deserves it MORE.  I really dont care to be honest, but I feel like the two have had similar seasons, but I feel like Ray has been extremely efficient and just been the rock on this team while Rondo and Paul have both been here one game and gone the next.  Even when Ray's quiet, he's generally not doing anything to hurt the team whereas Paul and Rajon have that tendency.

Ray's non-shooting contributions have fallen off so much that there hasn't been a tremendous difference between him and Kyle Korver for the past few weeks. 

Ray's the only guy in our (healthy) top 7 rotation with a negative net on-court/off-court rating.  Even JO and Pietrus are in positive territory..

  I think that it's quite an adventure every time Ray handles or passes the ball. But aside from that the reason he doesn't do anything to hurt the team when he's not scoring is that he isn't really doing anything to help the team. His value add is mainly hitting open shots, keeping a defender on the perimeter and whatever he does on defense. If he was put in a position where he needed to create shots for himself or others like RR and PP are he'd hurt the team significantly.

I completely agree with that...I guess Ive just accepted that and dont really expect anything else from Ray but to hit his shots.  That's why he's a high-level roleplayer.

With that said, Pierce can create his own shot...but if we're in a position where we need him to do that, he's having more trouble than ever trying to get an open look.  KG's offense is incredibly inconsistent as we all know and a majority of his shots seem to come off of switches from Ray's screens that left him open.

Like I said, we have four very high-level roleplayers.  I'm not sure any of them should be All-Stars at this point in their careers.  But as a Celtics fan, I obviously still want to see them sneak in the game.

The difference between Ray and a player like Rip or Korver though is that he's still incredible at GETTING open.  Ray is open so many times a game when we don't even look his way it's incredible.  If the play isn't called for him, we simply dont look for him.  Additionally, his lightning quick release still puts him in a whole different category as far as pure shooting
