  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
JO if we are winning or have built a margin- he's our best defensive big by miles.
Bass if we need to score.
Wilcox if we need to run with Rondo+Ray+Pietrus+Pierce/KG and have a transition/3 point game to catch up from a bad 3rd quarter.

Obviously, the answer is "it depends on the match ups", and also obviously, Doc has shown that he prefers to often put KG at the 5 and run with another PF, giving him a mobile unit late in games.

But if we are just talking about what WE prefer, then, JO's superior defense and ability to make free throws currently gives him the edge in my mind.  IF healthy, of course.

That said, Wilcox is slowly improving in his understanding of how to play help defense behind KG and his athleticism around the hoop can be very valuable in finishing possessions.

I would consider Bass in an offensive-oriented set where we need to score points quickly and need shooters.  He's still a liability on defense against some lineups, though.

In the long run, JJ may prove to be the better option over Bass for the 'KG at the 5' finishing lineup that Doc likes to use.  He's still too raw, but his upside on both ends is way above Bass and he's clearly improving with each game he gets.  'Not saying it will happen before the year is out.  But it would not surprise me.

Obviously, the answer is "it depends on the match ups",

I was kind of hoping that people would give specific examples of matchups.  I can see someone preferring Jermaine O'Neal against the length of the Lakers.  What lineup is best against the typical closing units of the Heat or Bulls or 76ers?

It would be situational but each guy has issues.  End of game you want KG as one big then:
Jermaine's foot speed and lift aren't there
Bass defense is not the best of bigs
JJJ defense and rebounding not ready for prime time (but getting there!)
Steimer see above
Wilcox might be the best at defense/rebounding combined but if he is playing minutes I can see him going into 4th quarter with 4 fouls at least - him not knowing the plays still is a bit tough but I think matchups aside I'd give the nod to him.  I personally don't care about the length issues as long as our guys are boxing out  8)  sorry had to put that one in there
Jermaine=best defensive big
Bass best scoring big
JO and Wilcox best rebounding bigs
all of these are not counting kg, maybe with kg out someone is going to step up big time.  I'd like to see Steismsa get some burn and confidence back.
