Dallas Mavs, Jason Terry, Dirk
Downright shocked that Dallas lasted that long.

Condensed season + less effective supporting cast + rebuilding year = poor performance from Dirk.

+ Plus playing your way in to shape vs. Pau Gasol, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Lamarcus Aldridge, not to mention Millsap. Finals MVP to sixth best power forward in the West.

For sure. The West is brutal, and right now there are clearly four PF's outplaying him with ease that he has to face on a nightly basis.

And in the face of declining offensive, it's not as if he can hang his hat on defense like KG or even the Mavericks record which at 14-11 is the same as Portland's, worse then either L.A. team's, and only a win better than Utah's and Minnesota's.

If he's chosen as a reserve it's only as the sentimental pick.

Get the feeling that he might've not put the full effort in over the summer.

It was the champagne diet. But he's a competitor, and fully expect him to run off a month of brilliant basketball at some point.

You guys do realize he lost 3 MAJOR pieces of their rotation?  Not to mention pretty much losing Jason Kidd, the guy who ran that team.  Going from 8 and 8 to 4 and 5 on 28% shooting.

With an almost 39 year old Kidd, Vince Carter, and especially with no JJ Barea, Dirk's pick and roll/pop game has taken a huge hit.

Also, everybody knows that teams just happen to play better vs. the current champs.

Dirk and Terry are two of the best guys you can ask for in a close game, all they need is some actual help to get the team through the first 3 quarters.

Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

So WW, if somebody traded Dirk at the trade deadline last year of a keeper fantasy basketball league and said they wanted to get rid of him before his decline, would they be vindicated at this point?

Absolutely! As long as they didn't throw in Paul Pierce who after a slow start is going berserk, returning top 10 value - 22.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.2 steals over his last 10.

On a related note, I'm going to again say how much I love the Captain, who is possibly still underrated. He's been a better playmaker this season than ballyhooed point-forward Andre Iguodala, Brandon Jennings, even rookie of the year Kyrie Irving.

He's the 3rd...  I wasn't counting Butler, but you could.  He was the reason for their fast start.

So, to recap:

1) Ottawaceltic is out. Take him off your Christmas list.
2) Merovech is in, put him on your christmas list.
3) Redz, Merovech, and justin_bobo can all pick at any time. Hopefully now.
4) Teams already picked:

Boston Celtics
Chicago Bulls
Cleveland Cavaliers
Houston Rockets
LA Clippers
LA Lakers
Memphis Grizzlies
Miami Heat
Minnesota Timberwolves
New York Knicks
NJ Nets
OKC Thunder
Orlando Magic
Philadelphia 76ers
Portland Trailblazers

IP - sorry if I'm dense on this point but just to be clear, Merovich is not automatically assigned to Ottawa's draft spot but will end up in the inverse position of whenever he eventually picks his team-->correct?  To provide an example for clarity -- if he waits until after everyone else has picked teams, he then gets the first pick amongst remaining players?

Yup, but he'd better not wait.

At this point, there are a few really really good teams for both now and the future considering where you'd be picking. Might be the best spot in the draft, really.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Outside of the handful of teams with two top players, I'd agree with that.
