What up!
Will Pierce ever beat John "Hondo" Havlicek?
As yall know Pierce is only trailing Bird by 9 points for the 2nd most scoring Celtics player ever. Bird (21.791 points) Pierce (21,782) Hondo (26,395 points).
Pierce will likely beat Bird next game against Charlotte on Tuesday. Assuming he only scores 10 points, he would trail Hondo by 4603 points.
Pierce is only 34 years old, yall think he might beat Hondo someday?

Jack of all trades, master of none.

He could do it, but i dont think he will. He will most likely play out his contract and retire

If he can average 18ppg for the rest of this season and 3 more he could do it.  It would take 3.11 season from now to get 4603 pts if he didn't miss a game.  I don't know think he will get there.

If he averages 15ppg he would need 307 games to do it.

Pierce'll get to 23k easy, probably 24.  It's unlikely he gets to 25,000 points, let alone 26+.  But who knows, he still looks pretty spry and seems to enjoy playing.

I'm not even sure he makes it through his current contract as a member of the Celtics, but even if he does, I don't think he plays longer than it, so no, he won't catch Hondo.

I believe he can.

As long as he stays a Celtic he can score 15 ppg for 4 or 5 years more easy as pie.

Yeah -- I think Pierce has another two seasons up around 17-18ppg and another two after that at around 14-15ppg. That should see him pass Havlicek ... if Danny doesn't dump his ass to aid rebuilding at some point.

It doesn't seem very likely.  I am looking forward to seeing him move into second place on the Celtics all time scoring list tomorrow night, though.

I'm planning to have some tissues on hand just in case my eyes build up a little condensation.

I dont know about him, but if I played out my current contract, and was within 2k of the all time record for a storied franchise like the Celtics I'd probably try to hang around for another 2 seasons.  When your career is all done and you look back, all you have is the memories and marks youve left.  Sacrificing 2 years of normal family life to put a definitive exclamation point on your career would be a trade off worth considering for me.

I hope not.  For the sake of the team, we don't really want him in a position where has needs to put up big points over the next couple seasons or we're going to be struggling

Never happen even with the 3 point shot factored in.

Depends on his conditioning and desire.

I think its certainly a possibility if he stays in shape and doesn't become a "gun for hire" and leaves the organization.

I'd love to see him do it.  It'd be one heckuva feat.

You know if it weren't for the big three forming, and assuming he wore green his whole career, he probably would have had a great shot at passing Hondo.  But with the fewer shots he's had the past 4 seasons (with the earlier years being part of his prime years) I don't see him being able to make up ground.

At the same time, without Ray and KG, Paul probably demands a trade and finishes his career elsewhere.  It could go either way.

I agree, though, I doubt he'll get there.  There's an outside chance that he could, but he'd have to accept a vastly lesser role and playing on minimum contracts as he approaches age 40.  I doubt he'd accept that.
