Rondo, Wilcox, and Bradley (throw in a second)

For

Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin

Doubt Houston goes for this, but Martin is having a down year. Doesn't seem like he wants to be in Houston after the failed trade. Rondo is arguably the best player in the deal though IP might say otherwise  ;)

I'm not much of a Kevin Martin fan, but he's good enough and shows enough promise where, combined with Lowry who I think is probably just a small step down from Rondo, I think I'd have to take the trade.

I added another one below too. It is a blockbuster three team deal.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7m6yslv

Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, and Kevin Martin to Boston.

Rajon Rondo, OJ Mayo, and Avery Bradley to Houston.

Paul Pierce, Courtney Lee, Chris Wilcox and Clippers Pick to Memphis.

Why for Boston?

We get younger. We add talent. And we retain basically all of our cap flexibility because Pierce, Rondo, and Bradley are all on the books next year. We could even sub Johnson in for Wilcox if Memphis and Boston agreed to it. We would have enough room to sign a max guy and possibly bring KG and Ray back for cheap.

Why for Houston?

This is contingent on how they feel about Rondo. If they see Rondo as an upgrade over Lowry then naturally that is a positive. Mayo is an upgrade over Lee and a replacement for Martin who is clearly unhappy. Maybe in Bradley they see the potential and skill for a guy to become a player in the mold of a Kyle Lowry (just with not as high a ceiling).

Why for Memphis?

Pierce would be a greater fit for their team once ZBo gets back. Provides Leadership, Championship experience, and three point shooting. Wilcox adds size for them to use until ZBo gets back. Courtney Lee can be a solid guard off the bench. He provides better defense then Mayo and will command less money then Mayo will after this season in FA.

For Boston:
Out - Pierce. Rondo, Bradley, Wilcox (Clippers Pick as well),
In - Martin, Gay, Lowry.

For Houston:
Out - Lowry, Martin, and Lee.
In - Rondo, Mayo, and Bradley.

For Memphis:
Out - Gay and Mayo.
In - Pierce, Lee, and Wilcox (also get a pick)

Thoughts?

It'd be an interesting win now trade, Martin is probably a big enough upgrade to make us better this year.

I'd rather have Rondo over Lowry going forward though.

No.  That trade just sets us up to be more of a mediocre-but-not-great team once we hit rebuilding.

If you trade Rondo, you do it to acquire a franchise superstar, or in a scenario in which the team will get worse in the short term but have a better chance of being a lot better in the near future (e.g. acquiring a top 5 draft pick, or a young player with superstar potential).

I think the Rudy trade is similar to the Martin/Lowry trade. It's not completely unrealistic, but I think at the end of the day Boston's a very, very clear winner with the other teams losing.

Statistically I thought Lowry and Rondo were similar. I also thought they were of the same age. Lowry has arguably out played Rajon this year. It also really doesn't affect our cap space.

For Memphis is win now. Also it seems Mayo walks.

As for Houston, well, it is getting an upgrade at PG and getting rid of a player who doesn't want to be there for a player who plays the same position and has some upside. Also they get Bradley on a cheap rookie deal and don't have to worry about extending Lee.

I don't think Pierce is enough of an upgrade over Rudy that you'd be willing to sacrifice Rudy's youth. Also Paul probably hurts Memphis' transition game a little, which is a big part of what Memphis does.

Similarly, while I think Rondo is a better player than Lowry I don't think you're willing to sacrifice all of that in a package for him, Mayo and Bradley.
