They really let Avery get away with reaching and hand-checking like he is a veteran... it's crazy. It surprises me, but it's great.

They sure did, while Steimsma got away with nothing.  Weird.

I'll follow it for life, but no doubt the NBA is a rigged show.
LOL at this garbage Avery played great D no way last night's game was rigged get outta here bruh

No question he played great D, but not only did this second-year player with hardly any court time under his belt completely run over a former allstar point guard in open court without a whistle, Bradley was not called for a single foul in the nearly 30 minutes he played.

And the C's happend to come in thin at the guard spots with their top 4 guards out (RR, RA, KD, and MP).

Anyone else find that a little weird?  At least incredibly unlikely to near impossible?

Not a single foul?

Not a single hand-check?
LOL completely run over?? u talkin bout when Nelson stopped nd he tripped behind him? he was in Nelson's head wit physical play are u a new NBA fan or sumthin? cuz if u think tht was hackin u must not have been around in the 80's nd 90's

Not only am I not new to the NBA, I'm also quite well versed in the English language.

And I don't think I've ever seen a player play physical defense like that for nearly 30 minutes without a single whistle.  Not Payton or any of the top wing defenders of the last three decades.

And never a third-string second-year player against an established starter and former allstar on a winning team.

Meanwhile, Steimsma got whistled for bumps with the body in the paint...
lol man let Avery Bradley cook for last night's game he did his thing I want him to play D like tht on every guard in the league. It's reported Jameer Nelson told Bradley stop pickin him up full court he set a tone nd we need more of tht

A lot of Greg' s fouls were dumb fouls I thought but does it matter with Dwight's FT shooting?   Greg needs to learn to push bigs out of position and slide with them as they make their move.   there is so much more to defense other than blocking shots.   He has shown some promise but needs work but good news is that he has room to improve.

It might be true. Orlando's a pretty heavy pick and roll offense usually, and I've always thought Rondo does a poor job defending that.

EDIT: to be fair to him, the way he plays it may be design

No doubt Bradley would have gotten a lot of calls going against him if he was guarding an all-star point guard.

Huh? He's been one of the best at the league at that for years and his synergy and other tracking stats bare that out.

The pick and roll is very hard to defend for any team, it has a much higher success rate than iso plays or often post play for a given team.

That was pretty much a 100% foul no matter how you slice it.
The funny thing is that the officials missed three calls on that once sequence.

Avery fouled Nelson, no call, then Avery gets the ball and Nelson fouls him on the break, no call, and then Sasha got called for goaltending when it was off the rim already.

Three missed calls and the Magic had the ball to start with like they should have. (with one less foul on Bradley so further away from the penalty but the same score)

Interesting. My impression is that he sticks to picks like velcro, and isn't very good in choosing whether to go under or over. I'd be happy if advanced stats actually disprove this, though.

I couldn't make heads and tails of the stats, so I won't pretend like I have any knowledge of it -

But I thought a lot of times he ends up going WAY too far over, almost as if he's banking on tipping the ball out of the ball handlers hands when he makes the turn. It's an effective way to create steals but I think puts a lot of burden on the defense and can create some really easy buskets.

I don't pay for synergy myself but year after year basketball prospectus and others rate him as one of the best pick and roll defenders at the PG position. And it isn't just KG, because teams run picks with more than just their PFs on Rondo.

As for the sticking to picks like velcro, thats so far off my impression of his defense that I'm unsure where to go. Bradley is better at going through/around them but Rondo isn't Ben Gordon either when it comes to fighting them.

Bradley's getting a lot of the credit for his ball-pressure (and it was very good), but I've got to give a lot of credit to KG.

That game was the best he's looked all year.  Looked like an elite defensive big man again (on the back end of a back-to-back no less).  Not going to get my hopes too high, though; against Washington he was decidedly mediocre.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Doc's been saying a lot of their defensive troubles have come from the guards more than from KG and JO.

His defense has been getting better, but his rebounding is still hit or miss depending on the game.

He did a great job on Anderson, though Davis got a board or two by shoving him under the hoop.

Van Gundy had a great quote, too.

I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like, "I don't buy this panic about their record and saying they're too old.  What are people going to say when they start winning again - they got younger?"

Bradley, Moore, Pierce, and Daniels combined for...4 fouls all game.

Not sure what that means.

Magic?
