Even a MLE for Allen is too much IMO.

Sillyness.  He's still a Top 5 SG in the league and you dont want to give him the MLE?  So your logic is "If we think we'll suck, let's suck as bad as possible"?

My logic is "let's suck as possible", yep.

What's the point of being a middle-of-the-pack team?

Ray is great, and he probably could find a team willing him to pay more than a MLE, but young players and picks are more valuable now.

If DA doesn't find a trade for him, he will be back next year I guess, but it's a big IF, because he is the easiest member of the big 3 to move given his "small contract" and trade value.

Ok, I understand your point of view and respect it.  But as a fan, I have zero desire to watch this team suck for the next three years as we prepare for another championship run and Rondo is entering his 30's.  I'd rather be a competitor in the playoffs at least hoping for an upset.

Nothing hinges on any of the 4 top guys.  KG, Ray and Pierce go back to their 2008 post-prime form and it isn't going to make a lick of difference.  We have Jermaine O'Neal starting at center and our best bench guys are Pietris and Bass.  Our backup center doesn't even belong in the NBA (stiesma)... You can't win a championship with that.

Strongly disagree with this argument. 2008 version of KG and we're a top 3 defense and a heavyweight contender.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

If the C's are truly in rebuilding mode next year I don't think there's any way they sign Ray or KG.  It's not an issue of how much money they demand.  But a rebuilding team does not want veterans on their last legs who would likely be getting paid more for the name on their jersey than the output on the court at this stage of their careers.

Why do you think the C's are open to trading them now?  These are exactly the players you don't want when in rebuild mode.

I disagree with the premise that Ray's future determines the blow up probabilities.

C's are sliding downhill in talent due to the declining skills of KG, JO, Ray and PP.  The team is out from under the contracts of all but PP next year.

They can stand pat for the year and let those contracts come off the books and try to get a good player through free agency->they're not getting Dwight and no one else that's a UFA is worth anywhere near the max.  Still a good player may be a available--the question is, with a better FA class next year, do they bother getting a good player this year or go all out for 2 really good players the following year.  I'd prefer the latter.

The other option is to move the vets for lesser-quality players that also expire and come with a draft pick OR move them for a equivalent player on a deal through next year with a 1st rounder (or more) to compensate for the extra cost.  In short, build up as much draft picks and young players to be either quality players or quality trade assets for good players.

Bottom line, C's won't get far this year no matter what they do and they won't get far next year either because there's just not much out there that they could reasonably get that would turn this franchise around.

The following year, that's a different story.  C's could have just Rondo and PP on significant contracts.  Bass, Pietrus and Green as potential resignees.  A couple of good draft picks from this coming draft.  JJJ with hopefully a year of gametime under his belt.  Bradley, Moore and Steimsma developed as either decent role players off the bench or off the roster in favor of better players.  Add that in with plenty of cap space to go after 2 really good FA's that year, C's could be back in business in 2 years.  Think Harden and Love/Griffin that year and the C's are looking pretty good.

Agreed turn back the clock on the Big 3 and leave Rondo's growth in place we're co-favorites with Miami/Chicago.

Aye, but it is not 2008, these guys are three years older and some of them suffered knee injuries and the like.
