If I had a job that would let me pay for ANYTHING, I'd probably be at a C's game by now.

Ya know, on TV, I see a lot of empty seats.
On TIQIQ, prices are dirt cheap.

I am outraged at how it seems Boston is either a racist town which dislikes the NBA or is such a fickle town that a slow start after 4 straight divison crowns, 17 titles, and greta play...they would jump off the bandwagon THAT fast.

Are Boston fans that fickle or are they just not very loyal tot he NBA?
I don't get, tickets being that easy after a slow start?
Those are some really bad seats. Better able to watch on TV than in nosebleeds.

These tickets are probably season ticket holders reselling tickets. In other words, the seats are already sold. The Celtics have their money. The season ticket holder doesn't feel like attending every game, especially when the games are less than enjoyable at times, and it biding time until the playoffs.

Nothing to see here.

Aside from the slow start and competition from the Bruins, I bet the lockout played a role in the price drop-off and lack of attendance.

The schedule was released 2-3 weeks before the season started, and suddenly there was a huge inventory for 33 home games and season ticket holders didn't have much time to move their tickets.  If the Celtics are playing well, I would bet that prices jump back up in April when the supply is lower.

race has nothing to do with it...if that were the case, it would consistently be empty, so throw that argument out the window.

Besides, back in the 80's the waiting list for season tix was ridiculous.

Good point.

Really, throwing the race card out there?  What an absurd comment.  You want to know why there are empty seats?  The NBA lockout turned some fans off of buying tickets, the slow start the team had and (to put it nicely) uninspired play, the Bruins are good again, the economy is still struggling, and the C's jacked up ticket prices again.  I went on Ticketmaster at the first on sale date, and other than the required $10 seats, the next cheapest balcony seat was $70 after fees.  That's ridiculous, I'll watch at home thank you.

I love the Celtics but I'm not spending $200 for a night out with the gf to watch an 81-74 game.

As a season ticket holder, I can tell you that interest in Celtics tickets is DEFINITELY down this season.

Last year, I was able to sell tickets on Celtics Ticket Exchange to ANY game.

This year no such luck and have had to eat alot of money so far (not too happy about that ???)

I've been able to sell tixs to big games vs Bulls, Mavericks and Knicks but against the Bobcats, Raptors and Nets, nada.

I also don't buy that the lack of interest is indicative of who the opponent is. Back in 2007-08, the Celtics sold out games vs teams with records FAR below 500.

I think it has to do with the lockout angering some fans, the Celtics slow start and & feeling they can't compete anymore and that the Bruins and Patriots unfortunately are more popular right now.

That's why if Danny ever decides to "rebuild", 90% of the arena is going to become empty. Especially if the Pats and Bruins continue their momentum.

Well that was first year of big 3. I'm sure the heat will have trouble selling tix for below 500 games 3 years from now

Tickets have been hard to resell this year.  There have been a lot of empty seats compared to recent games.
tickets would be a lot easier to sell if the price was lower.

this thread is really depressing me.  what right do we have to call out Lakers fans who show up halfway through the game if we can't even sell out games with the best team we've had in decades?  hopefully danny and wyc are better C's fans than the ones who apparently choose to be fair-weather...

Exactly.  Sounds simple but this is basically what it boils down to.  Tickets have gotten too expensive, and the team's success no longer corresponds with the ticket price.  If the rebuilding begins next year, and they want to fill the arena, they will have to significantly cut ticket prices.

I think the lock out really p---ed off a lot of casual fans.  They were arguing over money, but if someone wants to take their family to a game, its a $400 night.
do it

This(in my humble opinion) is obviously a person working for TIQIQ. The dude said it in every single post while offering bizarre arguments to justify spamming his site.

Surprised a lot of you kept it going.

/veiled spam is spam

EDIT: Before people get on me about accusations, look at his posting history - asking us about the general market around the C's, how the fans are, if there's a lot of fans from opponents going to the Garden, etc etc. Questionable at best:

I just went on TIQIQ and tickets are really, really cheap, WAY more so than the Bruins.

I also have noticed empty seats.
Is this for real?
Did Boston ditch the Celtics after four years of greatness THAT quickly?

Just curious, went to TIQIQ today and then saw highlights tonight, was it me or are there a lot of empty seats?

Know it's been a rough start, but still, people are bailing THAT quickly?  TiqIq had seats starting in the 20s, meantime no Bruins game has seats close to that cheap.

Which brings up my next point, are the C's getting good ratings/radio talk or have the slipped behind the Bruins?
Be said if they did.

So would that proposed roster be good enough to contend/win division?

Also, why won't Dwight sign?
Sigh, is Boston going to be plaqued again post big 3 because NBA black players don't like Boston?

Wish they'd grow up.

7     Celtics Basketball / Celtics Talk / Why Haven't The Celtics Sold Out Season Tickets?    on: July 29, 2010, 12:30:54 am
Saw an article this week on how the Bruins have sold out season tickets for next season.
Saw an article last week on how the Knicks have sold out season tickets for next season.

Got me wondering...why is it then when I go on the Celtics site not only is there no news on the Celtics selling out season tickets..but they still are advertising it?

To me...it makes no sense.  I mean if the Bruins, who have won nothing in a long time, and are coming off the worst choke job ever, are selling out, why wouldn't the Celtics who just won it 2 years ago and made the finals last year not?

Likewise...if the Knicks...the Knicks...a pathetic franchise with only 2 titles who MIGHT be a playoff team this year are going to sell out...how is the Celtics aren't?

To me...it just seems this is confirmation that there really is not much of a buzz about the Celtics/that Boston is more into the Bruins or hockey than basketball/that New York is much more of a Knick/NBA town than Boston.
It always seemed to me the Celtics for all the success they have had past and present have not gotten the buzz and popularity to go with it and this seems futher proof.

Am I right or can someone explain?

8     Celtics Basketball / Celtics Talk / Questions from rover    on: July 07, 2010, 01:37:29 am
Had a few questions about Celtics fans in general, the Celtics popularity, attendance, and rivalries.

1)  Just how big/popular are the Celtics in the BOS market absolute and relatively?
-Is Boston like the other Northeast markets (NY and Philly) where it's:

baseball....football.............................................basketball..hockey
-(or the reverse in Philly's case)

-Just how popular are the Celtics overall?  In most cities basketball is 3rd or 4th and well behind the baseball and football.  In some hockey is even more popular or at least pretty close...is this the case in BOS?

2)  How do the Celtics popularity wise rank on BOS sports hierachry ALL THINGS equal?
-How does it compare (the NBA) in BOS to say in Philly or NY?
-How do the Celtics all things equal compare to the Bruins?
-How close is the NHL to the NBA in Boston compared to the cities and how close is the NBA to MLB/NFL compared to those cities?

3)  At TD Bank, do the Celtics get a lot of visiting fans?
-The Bruins usually get a decent amount of
Montreal/Toronto/Detroit/New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia/Buffalo fans

-Do the Celtics have a lot of New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia/Los Angelos/Chicago/Cleveland/Other? fans at home...how bad is it compared to the Bruins?

4)  Just how big is the NY BOS rivalry in basketball?
-Do you consider them to be your biggest rival?
-Also..do you get a lot of NY Knick fans at home...what is the usual percent of Knick fans at TD Bank?

5)  Finally...do the Celtics draw well on the road?

A.  What has been surprising to me is how the Red Sox usually always have a lot of fans on the road...as do the Pats.
However, comparitively, it seems like the Celtics have MUCH less of a presence on the road.
-When I saw playoff games at Miami/Orlando/Atlanta..all markets that usually a traditional fanbase would dominate...the Celtics did not have a big prescence.
-You would think given that the Celtics have been around the NBA since day 1, arein sports hungry city, are the most successful NBA franchise, and currently a top contender, they would be like the Red Sox on the road.

-Is this the case?
-If not why?
-Is this just proof the Boston is not a big NBA town or not as appreciative other towns would be...or is it deceptive?

B.  The Bruins bring a decent amount of fans to New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia/Montreal/Toronto/Buffalo and so fourth.
-What about the Celtics...how is your road turnout...particularly in New York...relative to the Bruins?

Thanks!

FYI TIQIQ is a partner of the blog (OK, not sure if partner is the correct word, but they do work with the blog).
