If the New Jersey Nets miss out on acquiring Orlando Magic center and free agent to-be Dwight Howard, the team is expected to trade point guard Deron Williams and begin the rebuilding process, according to a report from ESPN. Williams is in the final year of his deal with the Nets and the team is worried that if Howard goes elsewhere, Williams will not re-sign. New Jersey is prepared to trade the all-star point guard in order to avoid being left empty handed if Williams goes to free agency. The Magic have repeatedly claimed that they are not currently shopping Howard, however, the Los Angeles Lakers have long been rumored as a landing spot for the all-star center. Williams is averaging 18.3 points and 8.4 assists for the Nets (3-10) this season. Howard is putting up 20.5 points and 15.2 rebounds a game for Orlando (8-3).

What team could beat an offer of rondo and maybe a pick? They would have to be a team Williams is willing to resign with, I think Danny could convince him to resign and get him help with cap room and hopefully green returning.

Why would Deron Williams be willing to sign here if he is not willing with NJ?

We'd just be giving up Rondo to watch Deron Williams leave in the summer.

Probably home to Dallas.

Williams has always been out of shape who takes dumb fadeaway shots. Plus, he's the main reason Jerry Sloan is retired so you know he was a problem in the locker room. no thanks

Teams Deron Williams may be willing to re-sign with
  • Dallas -- a package based around Lamar Odom, Roddy Beaubois and draft picks
  • LA Lakers -- either Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum
  • New York -- Amare Stoudemire
  • Orlando -- Jameer Nelson, Ryan Anderson and picks
  • Oklahoma -- Russell Westbrook

Would any of these teams be able to make a run at Deron? Would he re-sign there with the talent leftover?

  • Memphis -- need to make it a three way trade to move Conley and Gay with Memphis getting a quality SF back from whomever the third team is. NJ get Gay or Conley + other assets.
  • Portland -- Ray Felton, Nic Batum and Wes Matthews
  • Philadelphia -- Jrue Holiday, draft picks and Nocioni for Deron. Something with Evan Turner.
  • Indiana -- Darren Collison, Tyler Hansbrough and two first round picks
  • Houston -- Kyle Lowry

I am thinking Portland and Indiana may be tempting. No to Memphis, Phily and Houston.

He wants to be on  mega talent team , with immediate playoff hopes .

If he disliked Sloan and Jazz , he would be unhappy at Boston as well.  Same as CP3 , both want to play out west with a major city contenders.

I trust CP3 more than DWill when it comes to loyality.

He has huge potential , but not the right character to lead the Celtics and not someone I'd trade Rondo for.  Maybe some lesser players. D Will needs to come back to earth and growup .  Maybe in 5 years.

here we go again

go back a few weeks, remove all the CP3 references, insert Deron Williams' name, and you've got yourself a month's worth of arguments for and against trading Rondo

so

Bos sends: Rondo,Bass,Bradley, future pick
NJN sends: Deron, Humphries

Fixes our go to scorer and rebounding problems.

No thanks. Deron is no CP3, I would not give up Rondo for him.

Keep Rondo.

CP3 and maybe Rose are the only 2 point guards you trade Rondo for, in the hopes of rebuilding for the future.

Couldnt agree more. Especially after his horribly slow start in NJ I could see why they would be willing to trade him.
