On Rondo: Yes, I think he's at his peak or near it. He's about to be 26 years old. I love the guy. I do love watching him play. But he's not going to evolve into Chris Paul no more than 26 year old Chris Paul is going to evolve into 27 year old LeBron James.
On Garbage: Sorry if anyone was offended with me calling our scrubs "Garbage". What I mean to say is, if you take a look at a random "bad" team like Phoenix and look at the talent that makes up their bench (Sebastian Telfair, Robin Lopez, Ronnie Price) you'd probably call those guys "scrubs". Our entire bench is made up of "scrubs". That's great if you have high hopes for Pietrus. This is his 9th season... We know what he can and can't do. You are already saw it in his first two games.
On Storylines: What I mean to say is, there are overriding storylines that compel you to follow this team... "Is KG washed up?" ... "Is Pierce washed up?"... That's not what I was talking about. I'm talking about tuning in last year to see whether or not Jeff Green was going to develop into a 20 point scorer and suddenly "click" with Rondo in the running game. Personally, I either tune in to see our "contender" try to beat another "contender"... or I'm tuning in to watch whether our young guys can develop into players that can turn us into a contender. This year we are clearly not a contender... and there isn't a single young prospect worth following on this team who will reasonably develop into a substantial player. SUre, you'll see random delusional threads throughout this year about Avery Bradley, E'Twaun Moore, Stiemsma, and JaJuan Johnson in the same way you'd see delusional threads about Tyler Honeycutt if he was playing for the Celtics... but none of those scrubs are likely to turn into anything substantial. There isn't a Derrick Favors or Enes Kanter on this team. We don't have a single serious prospect on the Celtics.
Thanks for you completely subjective opinion on whether or not the story lines on this team are worth following.
I wonder what your definition of a substantial player is. I agree with you that we have no one under 25 who is likely to turn into a top 25 player, but we do have some guys who may be able to turn into solid pros who could help out the right team.
Personally, I feel like there are many intriquing individual stories on this team. For me the most notable ones are Rondo and Pierce. I don't need to re-hash those stories as everyone's followed them.
Even more than the individual stories, I find the overall team story fascinating. The fact that this team has essentially been written off by many, including a large faction among their own fan base, puts them in an underdog status right now. I like rooting for an underdog and a long shot.
Sure, we could put a fork in them after a lackluster first ten games, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the plot to take a twist at some point during the season where these guys start to look more like grizzled, old warriors than washed up has beens.
I don't fault you for having no interest in that story, but it's keeping me glued to this current version of the Boston Celtics.
