I think they will, but the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if they're fighting until the last couple of weeks of the regular season to make it in.

First round exit looks like a virtual certainty, barring some kind of major shakeup around the trade deadline.

I'm with you, though -- if the Celtics are still struggling to stay around .500 a month and a half or so from now, I think DA should seriously explore just blowing up the team and trying to get some picks in the upcoming draft / tanking for a late-ish lottery pick.
Wit the bolded iont think we'll continue to play THIS bad i got us as a 5th or 6th seed once we get things together

the thing is, if they continue playing this way, with the games coming so fast, they're going to dig themselves such a hole that even if they put it together they'll still be scraping for a 7th or 8th seed by the end of the season.

just think -- if they drop the next 3 games, all very loseable, they'll be at 4-9 on the season.  that's a pretty big hole right there already.

Yep..you nailed it

Oviously this is not a new sentiment but if we are headed to a 7 or 8 seed, then blowing it up at the trade deadline has to be done.  Trade Ray for picks if we can make it happen.  Trade KG for anything.  And as seems inevitable, amnesty PP.

Might as well start the rebuilding now, with a good draft next year.  Who knows, maybe we get lucky and win the lottery for a change.

One more thing.  There is ZERO chance of landing Howard.  So we have to go young and hope for the best.

Playoffs? If they play this way, they won't make a .500 record.

no.  despite the fact they were the best team in the east for 2/3 of the year last year.  despite the fact they were 5 points away from a championship less than 2 years ago.  despite the fact that they've won a championship.  despite the fact that it's still the preseason for their captain and best offensive player.  despite there being 3 or possibly 4 hall of famers on the team.

no, they have no shot.

Ray and Pierce will be better.  Enough to win games like this and push us into the playoffs.

KG/JO will have to be better for us to have a shot out of the first round though.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

JO is in the top 10 in the league in terms of waste of money. He has nothing left. He will give you a good game every 5 or 6 games. He is cooked. The only guy on the front line who has lift is Brandon Bass.

I'm not dreaming of wins at this point , I'm hoping for the health of JO , KG and PP to continue so we can field a team.

This super hard schedule is tuff for a 22 year old.... I hope they can just make it though the season win or loose and not retire crippled up worse than they are.

KG playing so slow and no lift is an accident waiting to happen.

And poor Rondo is getting killed trying to carry the team on his shoulders.

Yeah, we'll make it...but making it past the first round is far from guaranteed

Of course they will.

It is still WAAAAYYY too early to count them out.

If they are playing like this in late Feb then I'll be worried.

Yes, which team in the east that did not go to the playoffs last year is capable of beating the Celtics over 66 games?

The Wizards? The Cavaliers? The Nets? The Bobcats?

Come on people.

If we were in the Western Conference, then it might be more interesting.

Answer: The same eight teams in the East are going back to the playoffs.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Serious question.

It's pretty obvious that this team is not a contender by any stretch of the imagination.  And even completely healthy, we are a bottom half playoff team.  I would not be shocked if DA blew it up midseason, making the celts a potential lottery pick.

Based on your post he wouldn't need to blow the team up as we're a potential lottery team now.

We'll make the playoffs.  There could be more painful moments throughout the regular season, but once the playoffs hit, we'll be a dangerous team.
