Obviously I can't see them giving up Love or Rubio, but they have plenty of other pieces and draft picks and with Love and Rubio might be an attractive destination for Dwight (even if Dwight won't sign an extension perhaps you can get him to exercise his option like Paul did to go to the Clippers).

Something like this is a solid offer for Orlando

Dwight, Hedo

for

2 of 3 (Beasley, Williams, Johnson), Pekovic, plus the ability to add other young players like Ridnour, Barea, Randolph, Tolliver, etc. and whatever draft picks are necessary

Not equal value, but certainly a solid package for the Magic and a team with Dwight, Love, and Rubio would be a great start to a potential title team.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I don't see Dwight wanting to stay in Minnesota.  And the Wolves would be giving up so much for a 1 year rental basically.  It's not even like they're a contender.

get him for a year and a half and perhaps he likes the idea of playing with Love and Rubio long term.

And I'd think a team with Howard, Love, Rubio, the remaining SF (johnson, williams, or beasley), Darko, Barea, etc. would be a contender especially going into next year with a half of season together.

i don't think love would be as dominant statistically if dwight was also there.

I think every team should have a thread about how they should pursue Dwight Howard.

Because honestly every team should.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't know, if Dwight doesn't really want to come to Boston, I don't see any situation where he would go to one of the smallest media markets / coldest cities in the NBA. Love is a very good player and Rubio shows a lot of promise, but there are a lot of other options for Howard that are at least as good and way more desirable.

Dwight there would make them an instant contender considering what they would keep. I'd do it. A one year rental for pieces that are replaceable and really won't get you anywhere in the future, plus you keep Rubio and Love, certainly two players you can still build from. Also, don't forget, if anything, they'd still be able to use Dwight in a sign and trade at seasons' end.

That was my thinking and hey who knows, maybe Dwight actually likes Minneapolis and playing with Love and Rubio and decides to stay.  For a franchise like Minnesota, which has won exactly 2 playoff series in its entire history and is in the 8th season since its last playoff appearance, making noise and getting Dwight would do wonders for the franchise as a whole.  It is totally worth it, even for just a year and a half (I would strongly encourage dwight to exercise his option, but would probably make some version of the trade even in a rental capacity).

Sure, but a lot of teams don't realistically have the pieces available to trade and to still pair with Dwight.  Minnesota is actually one of those teams.

Yea, sounds good, especially to a Wolves fan like me. We all know Howard is a prima donna and would never come to/stay in Minnesota.

  • Rondo = Good
No way would he stay there.  They'd have to gut their team to trade for him.  Dwight wouldn't even consider staying unless Rubio and Love were still around.

Makes sense trade-wise, because the Wolves have a lot of trade chips but logically, why would Dwight leave sunny Florida to freeze in 'Sota?

it's not an unreasonable point but if I'm Orlando, I don't make the deal if Love or Rubio isn't part of the package.

How about Love, Beasley, Wes. Johnson and whatever other players equal Dwight's salary, plus a first round pick down the road.

Minny starts:  Rubio, Ellington, D. Williams, A. Randolph, Dwight

they'll be fun to watch though, with Dwight and Rubio...

and with Kevin Love, they will be a defense/rebounding team

but I don't see them getting him unless they give up Beasley or Love
