The two are not going to work out, so if Sac wanted to move Cousins, Westphal blew that by obliterating his trade value.

So naturally, the other shoe had to drop.

Also, if you are SacTown, you are still looking at a young guy who can still be reached. I wouldnt give up on him now either...they are young enough to wait on him.

All it takes is one coach to reach him and boom...franchise cornerstone... Westphal obviously wasnt the guy for the job.

I never understood what a Vet favoring coach was doing coaching such a young team.  Plus I think, regardless of the issues, he handled the Cousins thing very poorly.

To develop a program you need to have the attention of the players.  This is difficult in these days and times.  Certainly, you can't have ownership that tolerates the act that Cousins has been presenting.  Its like empowering an out of control child in the toy store.

Westphal had his struggles.  But then so did Doc.  Prior to Garnett and Allen.  Wonder what would have become of him had Ainge Maloofed him.

Westphal made his own bed.

He had a big say in which players the Kings pursued and pushed hard for that awful mix of talent that is currently there. He deserves what he got. He wasn't dealt a bad hand. He just screwed everything up.

Exactly.  It's hard to say "My way or the highway" when the highway might actually be better

He also gave the team no other option when he took his battle with Cousins to the media, completely undermining the organization, and taking away the other option (trading Cousins before he is completely tainted).

I hate to see brat players staying as the coach gets the boot, but Westphal let his ego get the best of him, and it cost him his job.

Another case of Stern sticking his big ugly nose where it doesn't need to be. Coaches get fired all the time, especially from bad teams with whiny players. Either that, or they leave.
