I just don't see that happening this season, regardless of how things are going.  I think the "blow up" will be letting guys walk away when they're done.

It's a short, screwy season.  Danny might move some smaller pieces, but the Big 3 are going to ride/fade into the sunset here.

As for Rondo...If Danny can turn him into something useful along with any other parts available, I think he'd do that. Still, not seeing it....Then again I never thought Perk would be sent packing.

Yup

I agree.  The blow up date has been set for next summer for a couple years now.  And there are just so few worthwhile scenarios to do it before then.  So, whether we like it or not, we just have to ride out this year and hope for the best.

We're in the PROCESS of blowing it up.

Why do you guys think EVERYONE's contract comes up this year?  We're going to let them all expire and have tons of cap room to begin the re-building process

Unless another team decides they are one piece away and offer the farm to Ainge for on the 4 stars, I completely agree.

The likely poo-poo platter that the Celtics would get for the stars will likely slow the rebuilding process vs. speed it up.

We're in the process of making one last run...

Cap money provides no security or promise whatsoever.  The only thing we seem to be blowing up is our hopes and dreams before our eyes.

We are not going to blow it up after 3 games.

We might blow it up after 20. Danny's not going to be content with a team that is obviously not a contender. It takes a while for a team to sort its self even under a normal off-season. It will be a lot less predictable this year, and any anointing or de-throning should wait a tick.

But mark my words...if the team looks like they're just not going to be able to cut it (like they did towards the end of last season), Danny will blow it up if he thinks it is the smarter move for the future.

If he thinks the smarter move is to wait out the contracts, he'll do that, but I don't think any kind of sentimentality or 'just one more time' kind of logic is swaying his thoughts.

blowing the team up would be signing roy hibbert & oj mayo in the off season with a starting 5 of

rondo
mayo
pierce or green
Bass
Hibbert

Now that's a starting 5 ^

If we continue to lose like we have been, Danny will likely start the process early. We will all have to wait and see.

I can't argue that, that is in fact a starting five, how good of a starting five is a different matter entirely.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Yeah that's not a great starting 5. They'll probably make the playoffs.

We sit here and act like all we have to do is decide to sign someone and they will show up. There is a reason that the guys we signed were Dooling, Pietrus, etc. Decent players, but definitely not top tier talent.

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure would rather not sit through the late 80's through 2008 again without really having a shot at a title, and sometimes the worst team in the league. That is what will happen if we don't blow it up and use some of the chips we have at the moment to get some young talent and picks. Then PP will retire and a couple years later Rondo will walk and we will have nothing. Your choice... Mediocrity and the Celtics though don't seem to fit!

I'm not saying they weren't good pickups. What I am saying is that tier one free agents don't sign in Boston. Tier two free agents will only result in barely making the playoffs in the future at best.

If the team is struggling at the deadline, if someone gets hurt (or doesn't get healthy), they're bouncing around under .500 and on the fringe of making the playoffs, I could maybe see Ray Allen getting moved.  I know Chicago's got Rip Hamilton at the 2-guard spot now, but wouldn't Ray Allen be a perfect fit for them?  I don't think there would be a lot in return, but if Danny could pick up a young guy or a pick and not take on any salary past year-end, I think he'd do it.

Paul Pierce isn't being traded unless he asks for it.  They want Pierce to be around for the next thirty years.  They want him to come to home games in 2020 and get a standing ovation.  They want him to stay as the representation of this wonderful era.  Unless he asks to go, I think they let him retire a Celtic.

KG, I don't see him having any trade value.  Any team that would want him to be that one last guy isn't going to be able to take on his salary.  Danny's not going to take a bad contract back in exchange, either.  I think he retires after this season (hasn't he already said that was his plan), but I don't think he gets traded.

Rondo, they'll hold onto, at least for now.  Might get traded next off-season, but this is his year to prove that his shoulders are broad enough to support the franchise.
