First of all i must say that a really like this year roster. In my opinion this is the best bench since Ray and KG came here.

Biggest hole in the roster is the center position. With athletic 7 foot guy we will be the best team in the league. I know it is early and i don't want to judge for two games but JO is done. We are old team but there is diference between JO and the rest of the old guys, he can't help us, to slow on defense not rebounding well not athletic at all.

Than i start looking for i center that DA can trade for so my conclusion was that good center with reasonable paycheck can not be traded in Boston. Why? I realize that there are no much good athletic centers in the league and those who are are overpaid. I suppose because of lack of good centers DeAndre Jordan, Tyson Chandler, Joakim Noah they are all overpaid.

Only Gortat's contract look reasonable but we have not assets to trade for him, Suns will ask a lot because they like him.
Guys here on the forum want Bass to start but that would be mistake. Our bench should not be changed Bass, Daniels are leaders of  the bench and i think Doc was right starting Pavlovic and leaving Daniels with the bench.

So i look at our roster and see the name Wilcox. That guy is not a C he is PF and so far he hasn't done to much i expect more. I continue to look at our roster and see Greg Stiemsma. Defensive player of the year in the d-league, athletic, strong, can move his feet - that what we need. Plus Doc sad that really likes Stiemsma.

My crazy thought is start Stiemsma with the big 4. What can we lose? Play him 20min but with the starters to give them a better presence in the paint and leave the bench as it is

I'm on board!

This idea isn't as crazy as the Dwight Howard trade ideas floating around on CelticsBlog.  Like the Magic want players pushing retirement in exchange for a top 5 players in the league...rrrriiiiiiiight.

Baby steps first.  How about Doc getting him off the bench for a couple of minutes to play in a game where his first center option is in foul trouble and his second center option is out with an injury?

Okay, so that didn't happen.  So how about giving him his first minutes on the second night of a back to back, playing a bad team, when the guy just ahead of him on the depth chart is out with injury?

Hey, it's a start (in another sense of the word).

I've always felt JO would be better utilized in the bench. I say start Bass with KG, and go from there.

Clover is right, but shockingly i'm not THAT far off from all of this...

He should get some burn tonight, so let's see how that jump shot feels when games count.  He can't be an a center-piece for us this season, but if he can contribute while DA looks for other options i'm all for it.

I just keep waiting for JO to stick that 15-foot jump shot every time he gets that look.  It's so hard to fathom that a man who was that talented not-too-long ago can no longer step back and hit an open look.

it's not that crazy of an idea. An injured Erden did well with the starters last year. Stiemsma is healthy and probably better than Erden. Doc talked so much about how great JO is in the preseason though , so I don't see it happening, unless he was hyping him up for a trade that didn't happen.

I think of all of the play time we had to give to Semih last year and how he didn't look that bad. With that said, I would be willing to start Steamer as long as you have a conversation with JO first. He will all but give up if he thinks he's being benched for the Steamer. If you explain that the 2nd unit needs both his O & his D then maybe he stays focused and can actually help the team.

i doubt he starts but hope doc works him into the rotation, who knows, maybe he wins the starting spot.

yup, that's crazy.

I think the C's need someone a little more experienced than him in the starting line-up.  Not JO who would seem better suited to the bench but not Steimsma either.  I'd prefer Wilcox or Bass as the fifth starter right now.

He can't be any worse than JO was last night.  Why not?

I'd much prefer to start Wilcox. I think he'd finish the plays Jermaine can't, he'd help us out on the boards (KG and JO have been a terrible rebounding combo thus far) and he'd be able to run with Rondo (the one man fast break is great, but two men is better).

We'll be able to see what Stiemsma has to offer if Wilcox is injured though.  Should be about 10-15 minutes of playing time as the 4th big in the rotation.

From what I saw in the preseason he had bad hands and poor awareness guarding the perimeter, but good activity level, good shot contests at the rim and a pretty elbow jumper.

Bass starts at the 4, KG starts at the 5.  KG sucks it up and deals with playing the 5 (time be show you're a team player and not all talk).

JO and Wilcox off the bench.

Bass and KG are our two best bigs, they should be starting.  Don't overcomplicate things.

What exactly did JO do wrong? Its kind of hard to fault a guy who the team doesnt let get involved in the offense... (I know he only had one rebound and one steal...yes pretty pathetic) but its like we are playing 2 on 5 out there... Rondo brings it up, feeds KG in the post while Ray, JO, and Sasha stand watching on the other side of the court... They ran this over and over and over and the success rate was pretty much nonexistent... JO still has game and he still can provide offense. If he isnt getting involved in the offense he is going to be non existent in the game like he was last night.

TP for the thread....Not a crazy thought at all.

After watching LeBroid and Wade taking it to the hole so often and cHeat scoring SO MANY in the paint...it is clear that we need someone there who can challenge their shots.

At first I thought that Stiemsma should possibly start only against high-flyers like the cHeat to challenge their shots and have 6 fouls to knock them on their arses....

However, I think Stiemsma would do much better with the first unit and JO much better with the second unit.Rondo and KG would find Stiemsma in close if a defender cheats on them.

JO with Bass Marquis, Pietrus and Dooling would be pretty impressive.
