Marc Gasol + OJ Mayo + 1st rounder for Dwight?

I'm not sure how the resigning of Gasol affects his contract and if/when he is tradeable.  TradeMachine has his salary at $3M for some reason, but with throw ins, it still can work:

There are a few teams that can give Orlando a fairly interesting package of young vets. Memphis has Gasol, Randolph, Mayo, Gay to dangle, Atlanta has Johnson, Smith and Horford, the Thunder have Westbrook, Harden, Perk, Ibaka, the Pacers have Hibbert, West (whenever he can be traded), George, Granger. Bulls have Boozer, Noah, Deng, Gibson, Asik. Jazz have Jefferson, Kanter, Millsap, Favors. Kings have Cousins, Thompson, Evans. Rockets have Dalembert, Scola, Patterson, Martin, Lowry.

Not all of these combinations would get it done, but the Magic could potentially have a lot of solid veteran options that still have some upside.

The Celtics do not have the pieces to land Howard.  Period.  However, the Celtics easily could be the third team in the trade.

Something like this (not sure Orlando does this, but I think the Celtics and Hawks do it)

Boston - Josh Smith, JJ Redick
Atlanta - Dwight Howard, Ray Allen, Hedo Turkoglu
Orlando - Joe Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Jeff Teague, ATL 1st

This would also work (not sure all teams would do it, but reasonably fair for all 3)

Boston - Kris Humphries, Anthony Morrow
New Jersey - Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu
Orlando - Brook Lopez, Ray Allen, Jordan Farmar, NJ 1st, NJ 1st

we get creamed in both these trades:

losing KG and Ray for Josh Smith and Redick
losing Ray for Humphries and Morrow

yikes! I definitely say no to these.

If Dwight comes here I don't want it to be at the cost of losing KG and Ray Allen. Allen proved last night why he deserves to be on this team.

What about Portland?  They could trade Oden,Gerald Wallace, Marcus Camby, Wesley Mathews and Picks.

Orlando gives up Howard and Turkaglu.

Camby is cap relief, you get a chance at Oden being Franchise center and nice your player in Mathews.

Orlando Starts

Nelson
Mathews
Wallace
Anderson
Camby

Portland Starts

Felton
Batum
Hedo
Aldridge
Howard

Just a thought, then Howard signs with Nike in Portland and becomes the face of Nike, more than Lebron.

I thought about Portland, but I'd have to think Otis would demand Aldridge in any deal - I think he'd be crazy to gamble on Oden unless he has no other option.

I could deal with Dwight in Portland. They need some good news over there.

If Orlando could trade Howard to Atlanta for a package that consists of Al Horford and Josh Smith, why ON EARTH would they settle for Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and a bucnh of other players that are of no use to them?

No other team wants our point guard that can't shoot. Nobody wants our one-legged power forward that makes $21M this year and is already talking retirement after this season.  Nobody has even heard of Avery Bradley.  And nobody wants a first round pick unless it's not lottery-protected.  You need to realize this.

Unless the Magic are looking for guys to wave towels on the bench the rest of their careers, they will not be trading Howard to the Celtics.

We don't have the trade assets (excluding Rondo, and even including him) to land Howard in any scenario other than a pure salary dump, which Orlando has no incentive to do.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Chicago could send Noah, Boozer and Brewer and take Turk's contract off Orlando's hands and get Dwight.

Rose, Howard and Deng is a nice core. Plus Chicago still has Hamilton, Korver etc.

Pretty simply, for the C's to get involved, Rondo would have to be part of the package.  And I am not sure if that makes sense to do.

No other team wants Rondo? Really? Nobody wants KG and his huge expiring contract? Really? Where is he talking retirement after this season? Has he said, "Yes, I'm leaning toward hanging it up" or something of the sort? Nobody wants a 1st Rd draft pick unless it's not lottery protected?

creamed, come on.  Josh Smith is a great player.  He is young, on a reasonable contract, strong all around skills, and is good friends with Rondo.  He would be a great second/third option going forward.  JJ is a pretty solid shooter, credible ball handler, and is improving defensively.  He is a downgrade from Ray, but not a huge downgrade and given his age and contract status is pretty valuable going forward.

Humphries gets a lot of crap for the the whole marriage thing, but he is actually quite skilled and would help the team a great deal in the interior depth.  Morrow has shown some promise as a young cheap SG.  The C's obviously down grade at SG, but I think it helps the team overall, especially going forward.
