Celtics are old, this prediction is based on the assumption the Celtics will spend significant portions of the season with key players missing due to the injuries.

I think he could very well be right, although I think 4 or 5 is a more likely.

if you're comparing lineups between the playoff teams in the East, you have to consider that the Celtics lineup is going to look like this a lot of the time:

Rondo - Allen - Daniels - Garnett - Wilcox

or

Rondo - Daniels - Pavlovic - Garnett - Bass

or

Dooling - Daniels - Pierce - Bass - O'Neal

or

Rondo - Allen - Daniels - Bass - Stiemsma

etc.

The Cs are going to drop a lot of games that way.

I'm still picking the C's to win their division.  Who's with me?

If Howard is still with Orlando and isn't pulling a Vince Carter and going at half speed they aren't going to be a 7th seed.

I think MIA is going to suffer an injury to their big three.

I think MIA is going to suffer an injury to their big three.

James and Bosh are incredibly consistent and durable guys.  of their Big 3 only Wade has had injury issues in the past.  as long as the supporting cast stays reasonably healthy, the Heat can probably get by without Wade for a few games anyway.

i think the Knicks have to be concerned about the possibility of leaning too heavily on Amare, though.  he has a history of knee and back issues, and they are very thin in the front court.   Amare could end up playing a ton of minutes this season and injuring himself if they aren't careful.

the celtics are being VASTLY underrated this year by everyone including the fans...ok theyre old, but that doesnt mean that all is over for them. lest we forget the Mavericks with a 38yo pg won the nba finals last year.

The pacers/Hawks/Orlando dont really strike me as better teams than boston...even NYC, unless they start to play defense im not so scared

Wow, that list is truly awful. No chance the Pacers beat out Boston, the Knicks are NOT better than Chicago, and the Nets are way, way, way better than Milwaukee. Philly doesn't really impress me either. Has anyone even heard of Chris Mannix before?

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

It should be a rule that any predictions from the experts come alongside their prediction accuracy rate of the last 5 years.  This way we could keep it all in perspective.   After Miami and Chicago you may as well put the names in a hat and pick them.  Perhaps that's what he did.

keep in mind that most of these predictions that have lowered expectations for the celtics because of their age are considering the ultra-condensed nature of the 66 games season.

the celtics are not only old, but they aren't a particularly deep team.  the ability to go 10 deep is enormously important in a condensed season like this, which is why teams like the Timberwolves, Rockets, and Nuggets are going to win a lot more games than people might think.  having that depth becomes doubly important when key players in your starting lineup are in their mid 30s.

Hopefully we get lucky and the injuries stay at a minimum.

A lot of teams made changes, but I dont think you guys remember (or knew) how good Philly was at the end of last year.  Also...that lis isnt correct...Jrue Holiday is the sarting PG for Philly...not meeks or williams.  Williams or Turner will probably be the starting SG. Meeks is just a bench warmer.

The last time there was a condensed season the two teams with the best records (including the eventual champions) had key players in their mid 30s, in fact the majority of their key players were getting up there. I don't think that the fact that the Celts are 9 deep and not 10 deep will consign them to also-ran status.
