First a foremost I feel bad for Green and Hayes, having your career possibly ended by something like a heart condition has to be terrible as a pro athelte.

But hopefully some good comes out of this basketball wise and there is some sort of system in place to prevent these health situations from sticking teams with the contracts.  I don't see how it is fair or makes sense.
That is what 'voiding a contract' means. The teams are not stuck with the contract.

I was considering the fact that they are essentially wasting their ability to waive a bad contract on a player who never even played for them, but looking up the new CBA I may be mistaken and this amnesty clause is good for multiple uses and every season?  If someone could clear that up I would appreciate it.

There's a difference between voiding a contract and waiving somebody using amnesty.

In the first instance, there's no contractual obligation, because legally, the contract is seen as never having validly existed.  The contract was conditional upon Hayes (or Green) passing his physical, and since he never did, there is no contract.

Under the amnesty clause, teams can waive a player who they are contractually bound to.  They still have to pay the player, but the salary doesn't count against the cap or the luxury tax.

All I am seeing is heart abnormalities on the search for a diagnosis. That could be a heart murmur for all we know. I hope this isn't an over-reaction on Sacramento's part.

And if it isn't, then my thoughts and prayers go out to Chcuk, same as they did for Green.

I know the C's are a class organization and it has been said they will be picking up the medical costs and be there throughout the recovery process.

With Chuck being an unrestricted free agent, I wonder if any team, especially Sacramento, will be willing to do that for him. I doubt it which makes this situation sadder, IMHO. I mean, at the very least, if medically cleared, Green could come back and accept his QO for $5.9 million.

Hope Chuck is and will be okay. Always liked him as a player.

Chuck Hayes was given FULL medical clearance today by doctors who fully examined him at the Cleveland Clinic - same place where Jeff Green had his exam.

They are putting together paperwork to clear Hayes and have stated he has no issue with his heart whatsoever...

So, do the C's come back for another offer to him??  And if so, wouldn't that be a strange sense of irony...

Yeah, Wojo tweeted it as well.

And Sacto may re-sign him:

It is Hayes' preference to return to the Kings, who previously voided his four-year, $21M contract, source says.

I was about to post this.  Chris Palmer is reporting it on ESPN and Cleveland Clinic has the best heart related doctors and facilities in the world.

I am curious to see what happens.  Obviously would love him, but Sac still needs to spend money to meet the minimum under the new CBA correct?  I wouldn't be surprised if he is signed right back to that same offer.

Wow, so he failed his first physical, and now is expected to get *more* money?  Give that man's agent a raise!

What other teams have the cap room to compete, let alone surpass, Sacramento's original offer?

I doubt the Nets want to tie up long-term cap room, and I doubt Hayes wants a one year deal.

Yeah, rumour is that he'll get an extra million added to his deal.
