The Indiana Pacers have told veteran swingman James Posey he does not have to report to training camp.

"He's not going to be with us," coach Frank Vogel said. "We're going to make a decision what to do with James at a later date, but he's not going to be in camp."

The Pacers can try to trade Posey, buy him out, use their amnesty clause on him or simply keep him on the roster but not have him around the team, as they did with Jamaal Tinsley several years ago.

Posey is scheduled to make $7.5 million this season.

If they cut him, should the Celtics offer him a minimum deal?  Or, is he too cooked / too redundant for our team?

No, Posey is finished. He has nothing to offer.

Posey is cooked IMO. I would rather have Raja Bell type or someone more athletic. If Green is back Posey won't play at all anyways. SF and PF would be 2 deep already with better players.

How many Roster spots are left? We still need at least one more center and one sg off the bench.

danny let him go at the right time, he played a good season afterwards and now has little left
if he was signed where would any minutes come from?

he would be a perfect swing man for the c's , maybe a pick could get it done?

Id say nothing beyond a late first. The jurys still out on what makes the kid tick in that huge cranium of his. But for what we need and what he brings he would be excellent. Low risk high reward guy danny seems to love.

Why, are we looking for a good assistant coach?

For all the heat Danny took for not re-signing Posey to that 4 year deal, it was clearly the right decision.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I mean, did he injure himself or did he just have a bad run with the Pacers?
I love the guy but Gilbert Brown is Marquis' back up if/when something goes wrong with him.
Not many guys coming off the bench for us like Posey did with that kind of D to guard Lebron and the 3 point range to win us a few big games.

Heart says yes,
head says no.
It's a no.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think that's about what he'd bring at this point, yeah.  There's no doubt he's a good presence in the locker room.

But the problem is that we likely won't get a Raja Bell type with our resources.

I'd strongly consider him at the minimum. I think playing with the Big Four would rejuvenate him. And if Green is traded, we could use a legit 3.

Yeah, Danny hit a home run on that decision. Kudos.
